Nobody Knows Me At All Lyrics

When I was a child everybody smiled
Nobody knows me at all
Very late at night and in the morning light
Nobody knows me at all

Now I got lots of friends, yes
But then again, nobody knows me at all
Kids and a wife, it’s a beautiful life
Nobody knows me at all

And oh when the lights are low
Oh, with someone I don’t know

I don’t give a damn, I’m happy as a clam
Nobody knows me at all
Ah, what can you do? There’s nobody like you
Nobody knows me at all

I know how you feel, no secrets to reveal
Nobody knows me at all
Very late at night and in the morning light
Nobody knows me at all

Nobody knows me
Nobody knows me
Nobody knows me at all

i completely agree with fire_eyes i recently had difficulty finding myself since i compared myself to others and realized i ddint measue up but this song helped me to realize that i am unique and nobody really knows me at all so who are they to say that i am not as good as them my favourite line of the song is "i dont give a damn, i'm as happy as a clam" because it proves that ignorance is bliss and we all have our secrets sealed up like a clam :)

I think a lot of it is about becoming more complicated as you grow older. As a child, you're not so emotionally complex and everybody smiles, you feel known and accepted, but then as you get older, you might still be happy, but you become a much more complicated person and nobody REALLY knows you anymore.

I think there is this aspect to the song where one includes themselves in not knowing who they are. There are so many layers and sides and complexities of a human personality that even you are on a journey to discover who you are. If you like yourself, who you've become after everything life throws at you, then that process of discovery is enjoyable.. which sort of relates to the "happy as a clam" tone of this song. Its also separate from narcissm, where you just can't get over youself and this feeling is no way is related to that....

i'm surprised no one has commented on this song yet. Whenever i'm lonely, this song makes me feel like i have someone to comiserate with. especially when I'm sad and no one knows it. the weepies know it, and they make me feel less alone.

its amazing how wonderful, abstract and poetic the weepies' lyrics are. you feel like you can get lost in them. its such a meaningful song and then theres the phrase "happy as a clam", which reminds you that its a simple song about a subject which should be so easy to establish, but is not.

i believe this is a song about identity; the narrator belongs to herself and herself only. She is content with who she is and thats all that matters to her. it is a song which celebrates individuality: "there's nobody like you" and encourages listener's to accept themselves for who they are and what they're all about.

I love this. It's just...you can be best friends with someone, live with someone, be a part of a family, but you really don't know anyone else. They're always going to have that little piece of something that's theirs that nobody else has or knows of.

I am sooo obsessed with the Weepies!

I love the first line "When I was a child, everybody smiled." It captures how people depict the world as such a happy place to children but are actually feeling pain all along. This line almost questions where these smiles went, since now she is not a child and nobody is smiling anymore. It also seems to show the sadness at seeing who people actually are once you're old enough to not be treated with smiles always. She liked the world better when everyone smiled at her and wonders why the world isn't as happy a place as it seemed like. What a great song.

I'm constantly smiling when I listen to this beautifully simple song because I think about who I am, how I got here and what other sides of me I have yet to discover.
