The Town of Lincoln Lyrics
Did you read the news today
About the town of Lincoln
They were told they'd have to pay
For the crime of thinking
Penalties imposed before the rot could sink in
I guess we've seen it all before...
I guess we've seen it all
From the docks a lone voice came
And the judges listened
"We will not play your games
Or accept your system"
"Have it your own way
But you will die in prison"
I guess we've seen it all before...
I guess we've seen it all
Did you read the news today
About the town of Lincoln
I guess we've seen it all before
They were told they'd have to pay
For the crime of thinking
I guess we've seen it all
With their backs against the wall
And the clocks a'ticking
I guess we've seen it all before
And as they left the court in chains
Ah, you could hear them singing:
"You're gonna see your cities fall
You thought you'd seen it all, right?
You thought you'd seen it all
You thought you'd seen it all, right?"
About the town of Lincoln
They were told they'd have to pay
For the crime of thinking
I guess we've seen it all before...
I guess we've seen it all
And the judges listened
Or accept your system"
But you will die in prison"
I guess we've seen it all
About the town of Lincoln
I guess we've seen it all before
For the crime of thinking
I guess we've seen it all
And the clocks a'ticking
I guess we've seen it all before
Ah, you could hear them singing:
"You're gonna see your cities fall
You thought you'd seen it all, right?
You thought you'd seen it all
You thought you'd seen it all, right?"

Lines I'm not sure about: "Poverty or our way"...please help
'Poverty our way'... maybe mean something about the American army, forcing their way on other countries and they think if they pull out the country will be forced into poverty. and dying in prison would be because they are taking so many POW s they're dying in Guantanamo anyway or if they pull out they will be forced to steal kill for food, and will die in prison for those crimes.
the line is actually 'Have it your own way', straight from the lyrics included with the album :) For me this song has a strong feel of censorship both in the media and in our everyday lives, 'they were told they would have to pay, for the crime of thinking' as well as the fact cog have always been a heavily vocal political band with their lyrics there would be some politics hidden in there somewhere....
fantastic song. for me it was really accurate in the depiction of how protestors are treated by the media and the legal system. i recently protested coal at the newcastle coal terminal, with very similar results. cog are a rare band who speak true. many people may believe that they exaggerate certain political situations, but until people get involved they just cant comprehend how fucked a state we are in
