This song is obviously about someone whose life is now repetitive and predictable, to the point of depression. I think the video clip reflects that too.
yeah pretty much.. altho cog songs are never simple and clear cut.. there is always the chance of underlying or hidden meanings to their lyrics damn they are the greatest band.. especially on seeing them live
yeah, i think it's about depression. feeling like you are your own enemy. and you try to keep going but nothing seems to change. times just passing by but you're not getting anywhere.
Routine will get you killed. he's fallen into repetition, and is starting to hate his life because of it. he's his own enemy because of the boredom he suffers by choice.
I think it's broader than just one guy. Like the rest of their album, I think it's a sort of Marxist-style revolutionary call to people to wake up to the fact that there's something more to life than the ordinary stuff that makes up most of it, to throw off our false consciousness and actually do something meaningful, speak out against injustice and not just be a passive consumer of whatever is thrown at you.
