Tell me how I finally figured it out
That now you're caught in the things you said you'd never do
And now, it's starting to show like her skin fell out of her clothes
She's got a list of moves to make

Stay for me
It was the first, it was the...
Stay on me

Well, take your time lighting the room
When all's said and done, I, I bet you're covering
I bet you're covering
Is it a wonder you're lonely?
Taking chances to feel again
I bet you never knew
I bet you never

Stay for me
It was the first, it was the...
Stay on me

Suddenly, a cloud must have cut
A hole in my head
When I was tangled all in your words
How quick to forget, we are
With eyes unimpressed, you're sealing the conversations
And are you wondering how things could be?
Just staring at the surface
When all the walls have tendencies
But it's not your fault
When no one taught you how

And now the one you once loved is leaving
And now the one you once loved is leaving
And now the one you once loved is leaving
And you're so sure that I'd be just fine here
And now the one you once loved is leaving
But you were surely just taking your own time, dear
And now the one you once loved is leaving
And you're so sure that I'd be just fine here
And now the one you once loved is leaving
But you were surely just taking your own time, dear
And now the one you once loved is leaving

What’s one set of lyrics that mean a lot to you on a personal level and why?

The song “Now The One You Once Loved Is Leaving” from our last album Illuminate means the most to me because I wrote all of it entirely about my ex-boyfriend and what went on and how no matter how much it destroyed me, in the end he really hurt himself much more.

"Suddenly, a cloud must have cleared A hole in my head When I was tangled all in your words"

Mindy sounds amazing and this is my favorite song on the album.

I was always under the impression that they both cheated on each other.

I think its about a girl who couldn't show affection for the boy as she might of been hurt before, and he got bored with her and cheated on her with another girl

"Tell me how I finally figured it out That now you're caught in the things you said you'd never do And now, it's starting to show like her skin fell out of her clothes She's got a list of moves to make" self explanatory I think, he said hed never cheat

the bits the girl sings is from her perspective and vice versa

"With eyes unimpressed, you're sealing the conversations And are you wondering how things could be? Just staring at the surface"

I think this part is about the boy not showing any interest in her any more, and thinking about how it would be to be with the other girl.. but not knowing fully 'staring at the surface'

"And now the one you once loved is leaving And you're so sure that I'd be just fine here And now the one you once loved is leaving But you were surely just taking your own time, dear"

I think this bit.. 'the one you once loved' is the girl.. shes leaving him because she cheated on him and hes lost love for her. and the guy is saying - 'you were so sure id be just fine, you were taking your own time' I think this relates back to the fact that she couldnt love him soon enough for him

Lastly I think the "Stay for me It was the first, it was the... Stay on me"

is the lust and love of the scenario. theyre both singing "stay for me. it was the first" which id take as their 'love' for each other. perhaps the first and then "it was the... stay on me" is lust, maybe for the other girl

thats what I got who knows, may not make any sense at all haha

This song really showcases Mindy's singing abilities. I think she has a beautiful voice and did a wonderful job on this album. I was worried about the singing not being as good as the former female, but she went above and beyond what I had expected.

I love this song so much. I've listened to it so much since the album came out. It's probably one of my favorites from 'Illuminate'.

I think this song is about someone losing their virginity to a person, and they "fall in love" with them. Since people say this happens to people who first make love to someone. I think this song is in a female's POV, and she talks about how the man she slept with fooled her and made her think that she cared.

well this is my first time doing this, and I'm just gonna take a stab at it.

It seems like a girl is cheating on her boyfriend after she said she wouldn't, and now it's consumed her.

"Is it a wonder you're lonely?" I'm guessing that's him saying do you really not know why you're lonely? assuming she doesn't get in relationships much, or atleast manage to stay in them without the other leaving her.

just my 2 cents, and my interpretation. :)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
