The Bombs Of My Saviours Lyrics
For years we hide in blackness
We have to sink into oblivion
This agony of fear absorbs my thinking
This anguish suffocates my soul
I saw countless acts of treason
Once this heart was filled with force and comfort
But now there's nothing anymore
The home I knew has crumbled into dust
I know so many of these ruins
I watch it burn, my fatherland
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours
As I'm craving for the sirens wailing
To leave this cell to cross the night
As they crawl into their bunkers
As they hide away and shake with fear
I watch it burn, my fatherland
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours
At last I dare to raise my eyes and whisper
I fill my lungs with life again
Walking empty streets and orphaned quarters
A shine like daylight in the night
I watch it burn, my fatherland
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours
We have to sink into oblivion
This agony of fear absorbs my thinking
This anguish suffocates my soul
Once this heart was filled with force and comfort
But now there's nothing anymore
I know so many of these ruins
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours
To leave this cell to cross the night
As they crawl into their bunkers
As they hide away and shake with fear
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours
I fill my lungs with life again
Walking empty streets and orphaned quarters
A shine like daylight in the night
To blood red skies I pray
Impatiently I wait, I'm waiting for the end
As I hail the bombs of my saviours

Spot on, one of the best songs from Iconoclast in my opinion. I like the whole style of the album, but regarding lyrics this must be one of the strongest.
Obviously written from the perspective of one of the few Germans who were no followers of Hitler during World War II. Someone who's waiting for the allied forces to finally bring down his fatherland - so that through total destruction (of the "Thrid Reich") he'll finally have the chance to be free again.
For a German band, these are quite exceptional, impressive lyrics. Although a vast majority of Germans accepts that WWII was caused by Germany, of course, still a large number of people here claim that the bombing of Dresden (and all the other German cities) was a crime or something. Although it actually was the only way to end the reign of terror and was obviously well deserved - what these lyrics make absolutely clear. Thankfully.
