Right under my feet is air made of bricks
That pulls me down and turns me weak for you
I find myself repeating like a broken tune
And I'm forever excusing your intentions
Then, I give in to my pretendings
Which forgive you each time
Without me knowing
They melt my heart to stone

And I hear your words that I made up
You say my name like there could be an us
I best tidy up my head, I'm the only one in love
I'm the only one in love

Each and every time I've turned around to leave
I feel my heart begin to burst and bleed
So desperately I try to link it with my head
But instead I fall back to my knees
As you tear your way right through me
I forgive you once again
Without me knowing
You've burnt my heart to stone

And I hear your words that I made up
You say my name like there could be an us
I best tidy up my head, I'm the only one in love
I'm the only one in love

Why do you steal my hand
Whenever I'm standing my own ground?
You build me up and leave me there

Well, I hear your words you made up
I say your name like there should be an us
I best tidy up my head, I'm the only one in love
I'm the only one in love

I feel like this song is about her relationship with a guy where she is giving so much and feeling so much, thinking he's perfect but in reality he isn't giving her much back. She's imagining him being a perfect guy and she's falling so hard for him but he isn't what she's making him out to be. He's leading her on, but he doesn't feel as strongly for her as she does for him.

that's what I think, I love this song so much it describes situations I've been in in the past.

Wow, I just bought the album tonight and I seem to be commenting on every song, I love it! This song to me is about feeling led on by someone you really care about. To an extent she can't blame him because she feels a bit deluded (she's 'making up' words that he said, twisting them to give herself hope that she has a chance), but then also he's being a bit of an arse and giving her false hope, but she forgives him every time. I think a lot of us have a person like that. You wish you could just pull yourself together and use your head and realise it's not going to happen and you're being led on, but all your strength and independence just goes when you think there's just a glimmer of hope.

Right under my feet there's air made of bricks Pulls me down turns me weak for you I find myself repeating like a broken tune And I'm forever excusing your intentions That I give in to my pretendings Which forgive you each time Without me knowing They melt my heart to stone

every time she sees him she is weak. she repeats in her head that he must like her even if he doesnt look like that, hes just trying to hide his feelings. she forgets things that dont fit with this idea.

And I hear your words that I made up You say my name like there could be an us I best tidy up my head I'm the only one in love I'm the only one in love

she imagines him saying that he is in love with her. he says her name like he loves her but deep down she knows he doesnt. she is trying to convince herself she is the only one in love.

Each and every time I turn around to leave I feel my heart begin to burst and bleed So desperately I try to link it with my head But instead I fall back to my knees As you tear your way right through me I forgive you once again Without me knowing You've burnt my heart to stone

each time she tries to stop she gets a heartache. she tries to pretend it is just her brain and not her heart but she fails and cant do it. he breaks her heart but she forgives him.

And I hear your words that I made up You say my name like there could be an us I best tidy up my head I'm the only one in love I'm the only one in love

Why do you steal my hand Whenever I'm standing my own ground You build me up, then leave me dead

shes asking why he has to make her feel like this, why he gets her hopes up and then crushes them.

I hear your words you made up I say your name like there should be an us I best tidy up my head I'm the only one, in love I'm the only one in love

she hears him saying what he actually says and talks to him like them becoming a couple is inevitable but she knows that is never going to happen because she is the only one who feels that way

    I need this album.

"Why do you steal my hand Whenever I’m standing my own ground You build me up, then leave me dead"

    Love it :) xx

this is one of the best tracks on the album.

this song is all about what we all go through, when we are in the situation where we hope, wish, and sometimes think due to their actions or affection that the someone that melts your heart feels the same as you.

in cases like these, we find out that it is only ourselves that feel this way, but we can not help how we feel.

"I best tidy up my head I’m the only one in love I’m the only one in love"

this song is the self realization that this person doesnt feel the same way you feel, and describes the trials you go through within yourself:

"As you tear your way right through me I forgive you once again Without me knowing"

I think what makes this my favorite song, is the way she uses the lyrics:

"And I hear your words that I made up You say my name like there could be an us"

and then switches it at the end with

" Well I hear your words you made up So I say your name like there could be an us "

this song is amazing, and an absolute favorite. so simple, yet so deep.

she just completly sets the mood with her voice, you can feel the personal agony.

i absolutely love this song, and i relate to it so well.

'And I hear your words that I made up You say my name like there could be an us'

its feeling yourself fall for a person who says the right things but is completely wrong for you in every way, and yet you still make up excuses to explain away his actions while he leads you on.

'Well I hear your words you made up So I say your name like there could be an us I best tidy up my head I’m the only one in love'

but i love the last verse where the perspective kind of shifts. now it turns from someone misinterpreting a persons intentions, to someone who is learning to recognize empty words for what they are. its sad in the way that relationships coming to an end are always sad, but empowering as well.. very bittersweet.

This song is about a couple and he is always hurting her.

Right under my feet there’s air made of bricks Pulls me down turns me weak for you I find myself repeating like a broken tune And I’m forever excusing your intentions And I give in to my pretendings Which forgive you each time Without me knowing They melt my heart to stone

He hurts her time and time again, but she believes he will change eventualy so she takes him back. But slowly his actions are turning her heart hard or :stone".

And I hear your words that I made up You say my name like there could be an us I best tidy up my head I’m the only one in love I’m the only one in love

He is a sweet talker to get back with her but in reality she is the only one in love in this relationship

Each and every time I turn around to leave I feel my heart begin to burst and bleed So desperately I try to link it with my head But instead I fall back to my knees As you tear your way right through me I forgive you once again Without me knowing You’ve burnt my heart to stone

She is trying to get out of the situation by leaving. But she gives in "fall back to my knees" and comes back to him.

Why do you steal my hand Whenever I’m standing my own ground You build me up, then leave me dead

She finally stands up and defends herself but like a repeating record he gets her to trust him "steal my hand". But surprise surprise he strings her along thinking things will change and he hurts her again leaving her "dead".

About being led on; she's the only one in love and she knows it, but she can't let go:

"So desperately I try to link it with my head But instead I fall back to my knees As you tear your way right through me I forgive you once again "

He treats her like shit, he doesn't give a damn, and yet even though she knows he's bad for her she can't let go, and keeps forgiving him and hoping when he says "my name like there could be an us."

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
