Whiskey and Water Lyrics
Please send me a sign
And set me up against the lane
Give me something I can trust
In all the drama and change
I followed a dream
And if a man is born to fall
Then let me live against my creed
In all the filth of it all
And I can drink
My whiskey and water and
Fix folly and peace
'Cause there's a price you pay
To live this way, it's called release
Please drop me a line
And send me love and sun to boot
'Cause I am idle, drunk and well
Busy with nothing to do
This body is cold
I have to make the grade alone
'Cause I have traveled far to find
I need a room of my own
Where I can
Break kindly with fortune 'cause
She's something to be
She's spending Saturdays in Partick
With the SSP
And I am charged guilty as sin
Because it hurts me to know
That she is working so hard
But for the joy of stock control
Oh let me
Sing out to myself
And polish off these bottle cries
And send them down to Saville Row
'Cause I'm not ready to die
But I, I'm ready to live
Can I make it out with pride
Played the left wing let down king
But I've been something to hide
And I can
Run to you for cover and
We'll bury the dread
And when the time has come for leaving
I will love you instead
Oh won't you
Sing something in minor key
This stillness is bleak
I could be dreaming with the
Guilt we have for the working week
And in the warm arms of a stranger I'm
Too happy to lie
I know we've both been here before
Just please don't ask me why
And I have
Walked here with you close to me
But never alone
But won't you cling to me in major key
You're the joy I've known
All the joy I've known (x5)
Lalalalalalala lalalala
And set me up against the lane
Give me something I can trust

OH man, this breaks my heart. Is it really that hard for most people to decipher British accents when they sing? I wonder if they're laughing their ass off at how their poetry gets destroyed when people try to figure out what they're saying. It's such an incredible song, and the lyrics really are poetry. I wish more people could hear the real beauty in them, as opposed to the nonsense their brains make up to fill in sounds they can't figure out.
. . . if a man is born to fall, then let me live against my creed
. . . 'cause I am idle drunk and well busy with nothing to do . . . (YES this is how they talk, like "man i am WELL tired" instead of 'very'.)
. . . kindly with Fortune . . . She's spending Saturdays in the Arctic with ESSP . . . (http://www.essp.org/)
. . . Oh won't you sing something in minor key
. . . won't you cling to me in major key
about time!
Woooooooooooo, I tried getting the lyrics myself some time ago, but never quite got anywhere near as far as this good person did! I love a lot of these lyrics. I believe this song is about a man who's unhappy with his situation in life. He wanted to go somewhere, and wanted to be with this certain girl, even though he knows he could do a lot better than her. He can't help his feelings for her though, and he's sad that she hurts him, when she knows as well as he does that she doesn't deserve him. He wants to "make it out with pride" which might be hard because this girl is tooling him, and although he should come to a "time for leaving," he "will love you instead." He wants her to feel the way he feels for her, but no matter what, he will still love her, because she is the only "joy I've known." Might make sense because since he's worried and sad, he's resorting to whiskey to help his problems that can't end because he won't let his mind win over his heart.
Hm.... here are a few corrections that might be worth looking into, but I could easily be wrong.
Cause I am idle, drunk, and we're*
And I am charged guilty of sin*
And polish off these battle cries*
But rather, I'm ready to live*
But albeit something to hide* (?)
And I came onto you for covering up We'll bury the dread
Too happy to lie*
But won't you cling to me and make your key*
The 'indecipherable' is:
The 'indecipherable' is:
"She's spending Saturday's in Partick With the SSP."
"She's spending Saturday's in Partick With the SSP."
The Whisky and Water refers to a hot toddy.
The Whisky and Water refers to a hot toddy.
It's only "Whiskey" not "Whiskey and Water."
I think this song has something to with Ramesh moving to Glasgow. I am almost certain that he says "She's spending Saturday's in Partick" which is an area of Glasgow, & SSP could be the Scottish Socialist Sarty, although I'm completely unsure of what they have to do with anything.
It would make sense if he was talking about Glasgow as the song talks about following dreams, "drama and change", travelling far, etc.
Please be nice.
PARTY, not Sarty.
The song's title should be "Whiskey & Water", not "Whiskey". "Whiskey & Water" was the original song title when it was first released. >>;;
the lyrics actually indicate a man's relationship with alcohol and -- due to the alcohol -- his estranged relationship with someone that is related to him.
