If I could look across the country
From California to New Jersey
Then I would count the parks and lake resorts
And number all the jets and airports
All those rather dreary rain clouds still bother me
'cause I look through the camera eyepiece and cannot see

If I could open up my window
And see from Tampa Bay to Juneau
Then I would survey all those open miles
And line them up in single file
Everywhere I look I see green scenic sublime
And all those oceanic vistas are so divine

If I was standing on the balcony
And you were walking down below
I'd feel rather depressed and out of place
And lonely just to watch you go
If you were swinging from the highway overpass
Within the western hemisphere
I'd feel rather afraid and insincere
If you began to disappear

If I was walking through a sad art gallery
And you were driving through the night
I'd feel rather alone and ill at ease
Beneath the brilliant showroom light
If I was flying on a plane above your town
And you were gazing at the sky
Somehow I'd feel intact and reassured
If you began to wave goodbye

He's confused. If you've ever felt torn between your emotions for a person, you know how frustrating it can be, and how sad it can make you. He wants his feelings to be easy to interpret, and he wants everything organized, like in "single file." He wants to be at peace instead of the battling in his heart. He loves her, and he doesn't want to see her go. Yet, at the same time he knows that he is going to move on for himself. He doesn't want to get hurt anymore, and he's coming to the realization that he sometimes has to make a hard decision to make himself happy, even though it may seem like the wrong choice at first.

If I were anyone else , I would agree with Brighterrr . but over six months ago , I fell in love with a boy , who used to live close by . but before I knew it , he had moved thousands of miles away . I missed my chance . he came to visit only a couple of weeks ago , and the week I spent with him , was honestly the best time of my life . when he left my house for the last time , it felt as if my heart was being ripped out . I kissed him and waved goodbye , as he got in the car and drove away . This song reminds me of when we said goodbye . For me , the keyword of the first half of the song is "if" . "If" I could , I would go to see the boy I love , thousands of miles away . but I can't . I cried the first time I heard this song , because of how the second half of the song describes how I felt when the boy I love , left for the last time . He was leaving , and there was nothing I could do . I felt completely helpless . "If I was standing on the balcony And you were walking down below I'd feel rather depressed and out of place And lonely just to watch you go" This describes how I felt . because , he was so close in distance , however I had no choice but to let him go .

an essay i did for a class. i love this song but kind of lost the passion for writing the essay so it's not the best of my writing. apologies. but take what you will from it. in general i feel that a significant other was preventing him from truly being happy, and while he did not want to say goodbye, it was something that he felt that he had to do.

Order has become a prominent part in many people’s lives. In the song Fuzzy Blue Lights originally performed by Owl City in 2007, a theme of re-establishing order and happiness is presented to call the listener to action. In the song, a man of order realizes that there is disorder in his life and wants to re-establish his order and happiness.
In this song, a man of order and his story is followed. He makes the statement that “If I could look across the country / From California to New Jersey / Then I would Count the parks and lake resorts” (1-3). This shows that, though he obviously can’t see across all that distance, if he could, he has the desire to be able to count them. This alludes to his personality preferring things organized. This is again emphasized when he comments that: If I could open up my window And see from Tampa Bay to Juneau Then I would survey all those open miles And line them up in single file. (7-10) Again, this proves that he would prefer to have organization in his life. Having this preference for organization establishes him as a man of order. After this preference for organization is revealed, the man begins to realize that there is disorder in his life. While organization is what he desires, he finds himself in a situation where it is lacking. This is evident from the song when it is said that, “All those rather dready rain clouds still bother me / Cuz I look through the camera eyepiece and cannot see” (5-6). Here it is found that there is something that is preventing him from being able to see clearly. Though he is a man of order, he now realizes that he faces an obscurity to his happiness. After discovering this obscurity, he realizes that he wants order in his life again. As the song continues, it begins to describing how he would feel if he saw an assumed significant other. He makes the statement that “If I was standing on the balcony / And you were walking down below / I’d feel rather depressed and out of place” (13-15). Here the author provides an image of him being saddened seeing someone else without him. As the song progress develops, however, the author realizes that this is his “cloud” that is preventing him from having order in his life. The author comes to the conclusion: If I was flying on a plane above your town And you were gazing at the sky Somehow I’d feel intact and reassured If you began to wave goodbye. (25-28) Here he has realized that, though he has feelings for this person, he would ultimately be happier if they said their goodbyes. This does not come as an action he necessarily wants to take, however, is a necessity for re-establishing order and happiness. This theme of re-establishing order and happiness is presented to call the listener to action. It does this by bringing attention to the realization that while something may be loved, it can prevent happiness and saying goodbye would be better off.

he understands how important this person is in his life, but is unsure of where they really are. he knows he will miss her dearly if she leaves, but does not know what to do when she is around. he is looking for order in his life, "And line them up in single file"

i think it's the longing the person has for the one they love. just idea of the other's safety and acknowledge of the person's existence will bring him ease.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
