Minute of Decay Lyrics

there's not much left to love
too tired today to hate
I feel the empty
I feel the minute of decay
I'm on my way down now I'd like to take you with me
I'm on my way down
I'm on my way down now I'd like to take you with me
I'm on my way down
the minute that it's born
it begins to die
I'd love to just give in
I'd love to live this lie
I've been to black and back
I've whited out my name
a lack of pain, a lack of hope,
a lack of anything to say
there is no cure for what is killing me
I'm on my way down
I've looked ahead and saw a
world that's dead
I guess that I am too
(chorus)
I'm on my way down now, I'd like to take you with me...

I interpret the song as a person struggling to keep themselves outside the bounds of 'normal'. A person trying to be an individual but struggles because they can not relate to those around him/her.

Quite simply, these verses DEFINE apathy. He/She can cannot relate to their surroundings and resorts to isolation. No hopes, no aspirations, no feeling. Lets face it, individuality has become the "road less traveled". He/She is being drained and blames the rest of the world for taking the easy route and fitting in.

Thanks for reading.

just one word; apathy. This song is about not caring anymore

At the beginning, the raspy sound is Manson saying "This is my most vulnerable moment". If you've read his book (The Long Hard Road out of Hell), there's a rather beautiful description of what it was like to write The Minute of Decay. It's near the back, under 'Traitors to Kin'.

I think that this song is about when he was writing/recording the Antichrist Superstar album in New Orleans, he had a breakdown and then fund out that his girlfriend at the time, Missi Romero, was pregnant and that she was going ot be having an abortion. "there's not much left to love tootired today to hate I feel the empty" Those lines show that he has had the breakdown and has no emotions to do anything, "I'm on my way down now, I'd like to take you with me" Those lines I think are about that he thinks he is dyng inside "on my way down now" and that because of the abortion, he is killing the baby "I'd like to take you with me" "the minute that it's born it begins to die" Those lines describe the abortion because the minute that the baby is brought out of the womb they begin to kill it. "I'd love to just give in, I'd love to live this lie" Those lines mean that he doesn't want to baby, but he feels guilty killing it so he would love to just give in to himself and raise it, or "live this lie" because the baby was an accident or a "lie" And then the next lines again describe his breakdown that he was having at the time.

P.S. To PoopyTheClown, when you say "not every fucking song is about cocaine", his break down was actually caused by a cocaine overdose. Just thought I'd point that out.

Cheers.

This song is beautiful, "I've whited out my name", in my opinion, is in reference to the fact his current persona is the exact opposite of his childhood persona, Brian Warner.

ERR silver darkness you need your fact straight you are referring to the song "Tourniquet" in which he says those words backwards at the start. The whiting out of his name refers to his cocaine addiction. This song to me is about just feeling an empty & your vision only sees death & despair yet there is still something keep hold of you, stoppign you form leaving this world.

I'm still trying to tie this song in with "1996" it doesn't direclty connected like the previous few songs.

Cool song though.

let's see...

the whole album is about him transforming from a worm into a man--and a rock star at that..

maybe this is the the point where fame comes crashing down all around him?

what goes up must go down.
