I don't believe that this is really a song about Christ. I'm pretty sure that it's about a relationship that he had previously been in where he really loved the other person, but that person wasn't fair or didn't treat him correctly and left him. After a long time apart, the other person comes back to him, and this song is kind of his struggle to stay away from the person. He doesn't want to go through that pain again.
So, I'm confused...is this a Christian band or what? Trying to make a connection here with the lyrics to something spiritual or faith-based but it ain't easy. Only thing I can come up with is with Christ's death and something close to what He may have been thinking as He was going to the cross.
Dunno, just seems like another song about not wanting to get back together with someone who's hurt you before (possibly multiple times). If so, dunno what's so Christian about having that kind of relationship, surely it's not Christ-centered...

This song isn’t from a Christian point of view it’s talking about being afraid to follow Christ and doubting that he is the truth and will never leave you. It’s not that they don’t want to be with Christ it’s that they doubt they’re good enough for Him and He will leave if they follow Him. The next song in the album is “return” which is about Christ waiting for him to follow and join Him!...

This song is about relationships...this abundant life is full of the good, the bad, and hopefully the wisdom to get through the ugly, too. Need2Breathe is a real life band about real stuff, relationships as a human being, as a Christian, as a follower of Christ in a fallen world. All, imho opinion as a long time fan, Christian, mediocre rhythm Guitarist, and singer/lyric enthusiast.
