| Bastille – Daniel in the Den Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This part of the song has proven hard to decipher. I believe I may finally have found a possible solution. "And felled in the night / By the ones you think you love / They will come for you" Basing the interpretation on everything in the song being from Daniel's point of view, he seems to be saying someone was "felled in the night", killed or betrayed, by ones who this someone loves. "They will come for you" referring to the ones who killed/betrayed this someone. Originally I thought this might be referencing Belshazzar who was overthrown in the night by Darius the Mede at the end of chapter 5. And while this seems plausible, it also seems strange that these three lines would be repeated SO many times throughout the song. So, I think a better explanation is a bit more general. Throughout the book of Daniel, he and his companions are repeatedly betrayed by basically everyone. All of this in spite of the fact that they never seem to show any hate for anyone; only a love for God and desire to be according to His standard. Anyways, the book of Daniel is pretty amazing. And if you haven't read it yet, you should... |

I think you could interpret "they" in a couple of ways. In my opinion, it would be the ones who tried to have Daniel's 3 friends, Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael (I prefer their Hebrew names rather than their Babylonian names) killed. Daniel 3:8 simply says they were Chaldeans, not very specific. The Chaldeans were the native group of people from the land of Babylon and were generally seen as idol worshippers throughout the Old Testament. You could also say these same ones were like "lions" in that they tried to do away with Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael. There's no account of Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael being thrown into the lions' den. Interesting point: the ones who threw Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael into the furnace were not the Chaldeans but some soldiers from Nebuchadnezzar's army. Because of the hotness of the furnace (heated seven times more than normal per Nebuchadnezzar's instruction), the soldiers were all killed (Daniel 3:22) while Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael were saved. Another side note: some versions may have a long account of these three's prayers and some other stuff/ This was probably added later as is generally considered to be apocryphal. |

This song most definitely parallels the experience of Daniel from the Old Testament. The chorus is the key. "And you thought the lions were bad" --- Daniel is thrown into a den of lions in chapter 6 for worshipping God rather than Darius the Mede (God saves him by closing the mouths of the lions and his persecutors are then thrown in) "Well they tried to kill my brothers" --- Daniel's three companions ("brothers") were thrown into a fiery furnace in chapter 3 because they wouldn't worship a golden statue made in the image of Nebuchadnezzar (they were saved and lived) "And for every king that died Oh they would crown another" --- In the book of Daniel, there were at least 4 kings in Daniel's time who are explicitly named: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, and Cyrus "But it's harder than you think Telling dreams from one another" --- In the book of Daniel, Daniel has or interprets seven different signs, visions, and dreams: Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the great human image in chapter 2; Nebuchadnezzar dream of the great tree in chapter 4; a hand writing on a wall in chapter 5 foretelling the downfall of Belshazzar; Daniel's dream of four beasts and God in chapter 7; Daniel's vision of a ram and a goat with its horns in chapter 8 signifying Persia and Greece (Alexander the Great and his successors); Daniel's vision of the 70 weeks in chapter 9; Daniel's vision in chapters 10-12 of the Lord, the evil prince (angel) of Persia, the archangel Michael, the evil prince (angel) of Javan (Greece), and the destiny of Israel. The book of Daniel is very mysterious. "Oh to see What it means to be free Of the shadows and the dreams That you claim to see" |

| If you're so against anything with the smallest hint of Christian meaning, you could always just go listen to the other 99.9% of music that is out there. "everyone must obey him."????? Really? Do you see that anywhere in the song? But what do you see? "Dear God, I was terribly lost" ... "He is the saving grace of the galaxies!" It's not about obedience, it's all about simply receiving the free gift of grace from God who gives eternal life. Try reading the book of Romans with an open mind and an open heart some time. | |

| I wouldn't have even connected this song with Adam's faith except for the line: "He is the saving grace of the galaxies!" Without it, you could say this song was about pretty much anything you wanted. | |

| Oh yeah, and grace is not some sort of outward, worldly blessings, it's Christ Himself as the divine life coming to us to be our life and enjoyment, even to be our everything; we need nothing else! | |

I agree whole-heartedly with nerdy_scarlett. Only wish I hadn't read the blurb from the interview with Bo about him not having "seen anything truly inspiring in awhile." Our God is a God who hides Himself. Don't look for Him in the outward matters. I think the Scripture he refers to is probably Psalms 51:17 (34:18 is similar). "A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." But we need to see that according to Isaiah 57:15:Â "For thus says the high and exalted One, / Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: / I will dwell in the high and holy place, / And with the contrite and lowly of spirit, / To revive the spirit of the lowly / And to revive the heart of the contrite." The Lord comes to dwell with and within these in order to give them grace (Prov. 3:34 - "to the humble He gives grace."). |

So, I'm confused...is this a Christian band or what? Trying to make a connection here with the lyrics to something spiritual or faith-based but it ain't easy. Only thing I can come up with is with Christ's death and something close to what He may have been thinking as He was going to the cross. Dunno, just seems like another song about not wanting to get back together with someone who's hurt you before (possibly multiple times). If so, dunno what's so Christian about having that kind of relationship, surely it's not Christ-centered... |

Don't quite understand this song's lyrics as they are according to the background story posted by elliot25 (which I'm assuming is genuine, as it seems to be). Why would someone leave with someone else's coat? They look alike or something?? And when she finds the note he "left for his bride" ... why does it use the word "bride" instead of "wife"? Newlyweds?? That being said, I think the music is awesome and the lyrics, while there may be connection issues (possibly only in my mind...), I've still listened to it a dozen or so times... :-D |

Really enjoy the acoustic version of this song. ...And I agree with perfectimperfection's interpretation. Christ's presence takes further away from our self and everything (our future, past, start, last, doubts, fear, temptations, agitations, distractions, dissatisfaction, self, flesh, birth, and death) unto Himself. "With You inside my heart You replaced [everything]" |

| Linkin Park – The Little Things Give You Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Ok. It's now official. LP has jumped the shark. First anti-Bush, now this crap with Katrina and how we're all terrible people for not helping more with the aftermath in New Orleans. I fear I may have to martyr myself in the end just to atone for how bad a person LP thinks I am. And just to take a page from their own book, I'll go ahead and throw some profanity in for no apparent reason: LP, I love your old music and even some songs from the new album, but FUCK you and all your political and philosophical BULLSHIT. The mixture is unnecessary. |

Up until about 6 months ago, I would have said that Linkin Park was my favorite band, hands down, wouldn't even have to think about it. Then the new album came out. I thought the first single was amazing (I heard it in advance of the album itself) and hoped for similar when the full album came out. What I was met with was a new direction with LP's style. Gone was the style of angst and pain and in came emo and profanity. The second single killed it for me. I was totally turned off. I refused to even download the whole album (I feel sorry for any poor schmuck who would even consider buying a CD from the stores with the crap that's out there and the overpricing due to the record companies and the recording industry as a whole /soapbox) The tonight I heard this song on the radio. It was great, much better than most of the stuff heard over the airwaves nowadays. I didn't even recognize that it was in fact LP throughout the whole thing. It was only when the DJ said their name at the end that I realized it was them. That is how far gone they are. Despite this great song, I don't even recognize them any more. I've gone from being able to sing every lyric from Hybrid Theory and Meteora and Reanimation as well (well, except for maybe some fast-paced parts where my words get slurred. heh.) to not even noticing that they are being played. Earlier I downloaded the album and am sifting through it finding the songs that are actually appealing. So far, nothing pops out. LP, sorry guys... I've lost you. |

| Toadies – I Burn Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I'm repeatedly surprised by how often I think a song has one meaning and then when I actually have the lyrics in front of me it takes on a whole new meaning, many times vastly different from what I had originally thought. This song is no exception. Most of what I heard before was the chorus and over time I started to get the lines about the fire, and stoking the embers, and sifting the ashes, but I didn't really know what it meant at the time. Indeed, the first third of the song seems to speak of a fire, I seem to visualize a large fire outdoor fire (as opposed to in a fireplace), maybe even a bonfire. The second third has obvious religious overtones to which the fire and flame references are drawn. The last third is a little harder for me to grasp. It seems to point at trying to forget something or even getting rid of it but the evidence still remains. |
