Rachael Lyrics
There's a poem that she wrote and hid under the mattress,
and if you find it please leave it alone.
With a picture she took of a girl on the subway,
with orange barrettes and the saddest face she's ever known.
As Rachael starts to wonder was it hers to begin with,
or was the memory from someone else's sleep.
'Cause there's a hole in her heart that still harbors a question,
whose answer just might break it so she's hanging on.
At least it's her to keep.
So i asked her...
"What if this does not belong to you,
and all these things you thought were true
turned out to just be someone else's lies."
Baby this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you.
There's a fleck in her eye that no one ever noticed,
a pretty birthmark for such a beautiful face.
All the men from her past seem to have left her abandoned,
I guess there's some things that you can never erase.
I've seen her play with her hair in a moment of tension,
I've seen her with her guard down ready to cry.
But there's a whole in her heart that still harbors the question,
whose answer just might break it, still she's hanging on,
'cause no one wants to die.
Then she asked me...
"What if this does not belong to you,
and all the things you thought were true
turned out to just be someone else's lies."
Baby this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you.
"What if this does not belong to you,
and all the things you thought were true
turned out to just be someone else's lies."
'Cause baby this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you,
this does not belong to you.
and if you find it please leave it alone.

"There is no Rachael" is something I think Adam said once. Rachael is supposed to signify the love interest in anyone's life. She's supposed to symbolize someone who outwardly seems to be well-established and almost overly strong, but inside carries the burdens of the world and really is very human with vulnerable moments. I think in this song he's trying to tell "Rachael" not to take on the pain of others, because not everything is always as it seems to be.
Well the name Rachael and the choruses are both references to the movie Blade Runner. So its probably related to that.
Awesome song. I think that most of it is pretty much easy to understand. The girl, Rachael, has a dark past and dysfunctional relationships with all the men in her life. Then in the chorus the guy singing asks her, "what if this does not belong to you, and all the things you thought were true turned out to just be someone else's lies." That her memories of the incident may not even be hers but those of others. To which she replies the same chourus to the singer, suggesting that maybe their relationship and love "turned out to be just someone else's lies." That her love did not belong to him.
it's about the character Rachael from Blade Runner
She has a hard time dealing with the fact she is a "replicant" - a bioengineered human with implanted memories
the "fleck in her eye" is a trait that all the replicants have - it sort of like a glow or shine
Great Fucking song
I Love It
fuck yes my name is Rachael lol
umm why is it always that "the obvious meaning of songs" always passes me by? i reallydont get though how the chorus gos with theother verses like i see being hurt and everything on the verses or whatevs theyre claled but i dont gte "what if this doesnt not belong to you....."
wow. Either that's the greatest coincidence ever, or you're right. Either way, I'd agree.
I made the Blade Runner connection as well. In addition to the things that DrkRtst mentioned about, there's that line about how "no one wants to die" and, in Blade Runner, the replicants were only created to "live" for a short period of time.
I have to agree with the Blade Runner explanation, considering the instrumental before this is called "All those moments", a part of Rutger Hauer's amazing monologue about the ultimate emptiness of life and the vanity of memories that one gets when he is about to die. ("All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.")
Also, the later chorus is addressed to Deckard, who himself might be a replicant. This, as well as BR itself, basically questions existence in whole.
