She Will Always Be A Broken Girl Lyrics
She buys a new dress for the party,
she always looks good in red.
Turns around in front of the mirror
and disappears inside of her head.
She wonders if he'll even remember,
she asked him in a casual way.
Just in case he didn't want to go with her,
in that event she knew just what she would say.
She thought of maybe asking a girlfriend,
even though she only has one or two.
She's always done much better with boys anyway,
so who needs girlfriends?
Pacing nervous across the floor of her bedroom,
gripping tight the phone in her hand.
Fighting back the rush of emotions,
and dreaming of just having a man..
It's a long walk,
and the music is loud.
She sees an old friend,
and she walks through the crowd.
Puts on her best smile,
but underneath it she's a broken girl.
But it's a long walk,
and the music is loud.
She sees an old friend,
as she walks through the crowd.
Puts on her best smile,
but she will always be a broken girl.
She struggles with an awful decision,
stay at home or walk in alone.
Her mother does her best to console her,
her father doesn't know what to say.
Puts on her makeup,
puts on the new dress.
Holds her head high then gets in the car.
Tells herself that no one will notice,
assuming she can make it that far.
On the way she imagines reactions.
Cupped hands whispering into ears.
Secretly hoping that he'll be there watching,
and she's also hoping he won't.
Walking tentative alone up the driveway,
sees some people smoking off to the side.
She stops and waits until they go back in,
crosses her fingers and follows behind.
It's a long walk,
and the music is loud.
She sees an old friend,
and she walks through the crowd.
Puts on her best smile,
but underneath it she's a broken girl.
It's a long walk,
and the music is loud.
She sees an old friend,
as she walks through he crowd.
Puts on her best smile,
but she will always be a broken girl.

Have to agree with zombiesrafterme; I got that meaning before the song was even over.
Seems like a one night stand ("She wonders if he'll even remember, she asked him in a casual way") and now she can't decide whether or not she wants an abortion ("She struggles with an awful decision, stay at home or walk in alone. Her mother does her best to console her, her father doesn't know what to say"). She's a young, proud party girl whose lifestyle is finally catching up with her and she doesn't know what to do.
I also want to say that the "party" is symbolic of the abortion clinic (she doesn't know who to bring with her) but I might be reading a little too far into it.
The chorus does have a similar rhythm to These Things, and similar phonetics. I don't mind though, I love both songs. :)
I feel like it's about a girl who dreams about that happy social life with a perfect man and group of friends, but no one ever notices her efforts to appear attractive, for some reasons she's mostly alone in her life while she seeks for attention, she's faking her loneliness to seem more charming, she reaches for others but in the end nobody cares about her and she always ends up alone, temporarily sticking to people who don't gry to see her true self and forget about her easily. And she struggles between wanting to be seen & understood and keeping her true self unnoticed under "her best smile". Also seems like a song about someone with an anxiety?
'Puts on her makeup, puts on the new dress. Holds her head high then gets in the car. Tells herself that no one will notice, assuming she can make it that far.'
i love this verse
It reminds me of Pertty in Pink.
her eggo is preggo :)
It kinda sounds like the girl in the song is actually a guy or something..
Its about a girl who stuggles with popularity. She never really gotten along with the other girls at the parties and finally meets a guy she really likes. I feel like this song and Tear You Apart kind of tell the same story. This one tells the Girl's side of the story, Tear You Apart is more the guy's side. Thats why "He will never get you, he will never understand." He doesnt love her, just wants to have sex with her...
why cant i get the new album on itunes.UK?
