It's like 10 tornadoes
A monster so cutthroat it could choke us all
I'm frustrated, but it all comes down tonight
Let's hold hands and listen to shitty bands
Tossing records out the window
Now it's either death or radio
Who are you and where did you come from?
So, yeah I'm the devil
And we both got plots
One more run then drop
Let it all cave in, make it all come down tonight
Let's hold hands...
We're all a part of it
So give, just give up, let's give up
We're all a part of this
Let's give up
Let's hold hands and listen to shitty bands
Who are you and where did you come from?
Where did you come from...?

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
