Sorry sweetie but did you even read the lyrics properly, it had "we never mattered anyway" it's about her father. One you know her songs and read most of these lyrics on this site from her, you'll get a pattern. So it's no ex of hers, I actually didn't think Otep had anyone... I don't know why but just never thought she did.

Right and did she personally walk up to you and explain to you that it was about her father?

"we never mattered anyway" can apply to an ex girlfriend that she wants to move on from. It's not like that sentence brought a dead end of my INTERPRETATION. lol what the fuck.

The reason I questioned whether it was about an ex of hers is because she recently stated in frequent interviews that she recently had someone, but they just fell out.

Not to mention The Ascension is clearly an experimental album compared to older material. She can step outside the boundaries and come up with different subject material. It's really not that hard you see...

a current girlfriend is lying, decieving, and it's been going downhill for a while "the killers quietly beat me down"-and finally otep wants to get revenge.revenge being the "ride" she's talking about. since otep is getting treated like shit "going down in flames", she wants to make sure her girl feels the pain to "you'll burn with me". maybe by 'smiling and pretending it never mattered anyway' this whole thing will be easier, people often tell themselves they don't care, to build a fake sense of strength or assurance. so, otep is tired of waiting for things to be good again, tired of striving for attention from the one she loves.

So I believe that confirms the ex theory. But, as always, Otep's songs have several different meanings. :)
