The Forces Of Radio Have Dropped A Viper Into The Rhythm Section Lyrics

I'm analog
two-inch tape
vintage, warm with a potent
hiss venomous
memories
always ready to strike like this
at your heels
don't you feel
like a trip
back to 96?
insert cassettes
And then push eject
I'm flashing red
Can't let the past
stay in it's cave
cause it rears it's head
insert cassettes
And then push eject
you're flashing red
You don't expect
me to rear my head
but I'm not dead
Like VCRs
I recall I remember the magic
so I can take
one last trip
down the lane of your memory
till you twist
like a viper
on my shins
and then you remind me
once
long ago
you
were the hope
but I forgot
sweet
You're no tommorow

96 refers probably to the band's creation...

I'm not sure wether he considers P86 as the viper used to bite people and remind them that there is a God, or if there are people unsuccessfully trying to get rid of P86 from the scene ?

Still i'm pretty sure it's something that has existed since the beginning of the band.

'Everyone has had fond memories of relationships lost. It seems, for some reason, that with the passage of time we tend to only remember the fond recollections of those whom we lost touch with for a reason. The past tends to follow us, proclaiming that it should not be left dead, but should be resurrected. Much like the old man, we should leave what is gone in it's cave; buried and obsolete.' - Andrew Schwab

This probably has to do with Alex Albert leaving the band prior to recording this album. Andrew was always more concerned with musicality and Alex with sales, it would seem (according to IADFH).

I think that it is dealing with past grievances, saying that if we go searching through our past, in anger it will bite us and it will haunt us. "Things like anger should be kept in their caves"...
