Sometimes I feel
Like I wanna leave this place for good
Under the ground
I'll live down there without a sound
And never hear these hissing voices all the same
I'll disappear 'cause living makes me feel ashamed

I must believe
There's more above us and below
I must believe
Stranded with this bitch called hope
It keeps me here
When all I wanna do is go
It keeps me here
When all I wanna do is disappear

If this is it
All we have and ever will
If this is it
Time is running out, I'm standing still
I leave today
'Cause there's nothing left to keep me here
I'll fade away
I'll turn my back and disappear

The city moans
And lunges up right from the ground
The seething earth
It opens up and spits us out
This vicious child
Nature never wanted us
This vicious child
A cancer burning black into its heart

If this is it
All we have and ever will
If this is it
Time is running out, I'm standing still
I leave today
'Cause there's nothing left to keep me here
I'll fade away
I'll turn my back and disappear

Sometimes I feel
Like I wanna leave this place for good
Under the ground
I'll live down there without a sound
And never hear these hissing voices all the same
I'll disappear 'cause living makes me feel ashamed

If this is it
All we have and ever will
If this is it
Time is running out, I'm standing still
I leave today
'Cause there's nothing left to keep me here
I'll fade away
I'll turn my back and disappear

I'll turn my back, I'll disappear

i think this is obviously about the feelings of depression and "threatening" suicide to himself. he then goes on to talk about the spiritual beliefs he holds, "i must believe there is something above us and below". ie. there is a heaven and a hell. but he will never give into taking his life though because he has hope, no matter how bad things are.

well. i really like this song. One reason because i can relate to the lyrics. Its basically saying that nothing happening and that the only thing thats keeping him here is hope that something good will happen evntually ("Stranded with this bitch called hope")

    Pretty simple. Contemplating suicide.

This is no doubt my favorite song by The Bravery.

i love the bass line at the beginning. i think its about him getting bored with life and considering suicide, he seems a little curious about what its like to be gone.

maybe it's just a guy who's sick with the area that he lives in? but the whole living under the ground aka buried might mean he might not want to live anymore.

he doesn't seem to enjoy it at all it seems to boring "time is running out and standing still" maybe he feels he is wasting his life there.

the first verse is talking about how the person want to commit suicide. by being buried underground, he won't have to hear the lies of the people around him. the second verse is where the person explains his reason for not commiting suicide, since he believes in a heaven and hell, and so he continues to hope that if he doesn't kill himself he will go to heaven. the chorus is where the person makes his decision to commit suicide (i leave today) because he has realized that nothing great or wonderful will ever happen to him, and he has abandoned his hope of going to heaven. in the third verse, the person explains how it is partly society's fault that he has decided to commit suicide, since the actions of society have destroyed the earth. the person then repeats the first verse re-iterating why he has these suicidal thoughts. the chorus is repeated again, and presumably, the person kills himself.

i agree with the whole suicide thing, but i also think this might relate to some one was going to do somethng else with his life( Sam Endicott; he has a degree in phycology or something like that) but its not really what he expected it to be but this"bitch called hope" is keeping him doing what he is because he doesn't what to believe that there isnt any more to his life. he is stanting to lose hope and just want to go back to whenthings wre normal. thats just my opinion ... ou never know

it's talking about life. he has a somewhat existentialist view. He is trying to find his purpose in life. "I MUST believe there's more above us and below" like heaven and hell... and then "It keeps me here when all I wanna do is disappear". he MUST believe it, for if he doesn't... he would disappear. but then he adds "... there's nothing left to keep me here". he will leave this life, because his has not found a reason to live. and... i think the vicous child is humankind itself, like the big bad monster, "nature never wanted us" ?? ... thats my opinion

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
