i think this is obviously about the feelings of depression and "threatening" suicide to himself. he then goes on to talk about the spiritual beliefs he holds, "i must believe there is something above us and below". ie. there is a heaven and a hell. but he will never give into taking his life though because he has hope, no matter how bad things are.
