Travel hymn

It came across like you were mad
Holding in your breath with everything you had Until you face began to turn red
“This is why I turn and walk away from everything”, I need to feel it closer now
…and I never thought it would be like this
“Between the seal a church is revealed and I would rather be lonely along the way”.
Something set us off into the wrong direction but within this particular space,
time Goes to waste.
And time starts to slow down and all of these patterns never change
So slow down, because nobody looks at life the same
And no one was like this ‘Til you came along And reset our dials wrong.

Is, Anthony Green an Atheist or (nonreligious) person? Can anyone answer this question?

It came across like you were mad Holding in your breath with everything you had Until you face began to turn red

(((Juding by the final line of the song it makes me think he's referring to jesus. The old reason about jesus if he existed is, either he was mad (crazy) or god does exist. His face began to turn red as he was being crucified he held his breath (stuck to his principles. The other meaning could be an argument with a close minded person who won't listen to reason.)))

“This is why I turn and walk away from everything”, I need to feel it closer now …and I never thought it would be like this “Between the seal a church is revealed and I would rather be lonely along the way”.

(((This also fits with the jesus thing, he was religious once and really respected jesus and gave up everything to believe by walking away from everything. He needed to feel the love and respect he had for jesus closer but then, only to find it was a lie and that the church was perpitrating it, and he felt it was wrong, so he decided he would rather be lonely than believe in this lie.)))

Something set us off into the wrong direction but within this particular space, time Goes to waste.

(((the people who wrote the bible are wasting our time because we're stuck in 1 routine and 1 idea that is false.)))

And time starts to slow down and all of these patterns never change So slow down, because nobody looks at life the same

(((The religious people never change, humanity doesn't change. But we need to really look at people's opinions and take them into account because everyone is different, other than people who are carbon copies to certain ideologies.)))

And no one was like this ‘Til you came along And reset our dials wrong.

(((Jesus came along and gave everyone principles to follow. He came along and his story is told, that's why I think it's about him, and he did change our dials. But it could mean the philosophers of the bible or god or people who try to make everyone think alike and be the same.)))

The other interpreation I can think of would be politics. Parties try to impose their will onto people.

Oh yeah another very valid meaning could be about his father. His father is religious and or really close minded and tries to exert his believes onto Anthony.

But the concept of the song is someone trying to restrict Anthony (the people) from being who they are and try to impose their beliefs on them.

I def agree that it has something to do with religion. But on a much bigger sense. That of one in which involves Bush and the war in the middle east. One could easily argue this to be a religious war of sense. But either way.

We are attacked, Bush and everyone seems to be mad. This opens up for a small thought of a conspiracy. "It came across like you were mad" I'm not to sure of this one, but i would say: "Holding in your breath with everything you had Until you face began to turn red" The continual lies Bush and his administration put out would cause one to turn red in the face ie. bush.

Then he speaks of: “Between the seal a church is revealed and I would rather be lonely along the way”. Now we (ie. the world) see what bush was really (possibly) doing. Now the church comes into play as a bad thing. Just like the dark ages of the catholic church....time slows down and begins to go to waste. So many hypocritical actions of sin in the eyes of the church just cause things to get fucked. Now in iraq time slows with death (and ethnic cleansing....oh snap). And no one looks at life the same, that is easy in this sense. And the "reset our dials" line seams to back it up as well. Ideas?

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
