This may seem like a far stretch, but it's almost like Rufus is singing to himself, example...
"See you looking so sad/ trying to live your life in style" Rufus actually sings about conforming to the "stylish" lifestyle in his song Poses
"I remember you when/ Looking like a teenager how you have become a man with all the power/ Running the moon aground/ ... You would become the one desired/ In every woman's heart" This could be how he has rose to fame, and how he started out as nothing and now he's on top of the world and loads of people love him
"'Cause life/ Will take that little heart/ And bring you to your knees/ Threatening to break it/ For the final time and you'll believe it..." He's almost giving himself advice with this one, saying that yeah, he's going to face challenges but he's got to overcome them and keep going on
So again, it may seem like a stretch, but in a way it does make sense...
KMJO8,That makes alot of sense.I was thinking something like that.Maybe he's refering to someone else though when he mentions a homo and a hairdresser (Maybe he means himself as the homo and someone else is the hairdresser and some else is the "you"...I could have use better wording to say that but,eh.) This is actually a song he wrote about his good friend Teddy Thompson.
I agree with KMJ08. It seems to me that he's talking about or rather to himself in this song. I love this song. It's so beautiful and simple and elegant. I even taught myself how to play part of it on the piano :] I don't know why, but when I first listened to Release The Stars this song hit me for some reason.
Ha! I actually know this! It's about Teddy Thompson, and the two of them became friends when they were both living in LA. Rufus himself is the 'homo' in question, and Teddy had a job at a hairdresser's, and I think the hairdresser sort of initiated him into the world of partying, and together Rufus and the hairdresser turned Teddy from a scruffpot into a well groomed person, hence 'becoming the one desire of every woman's heart'. I think the song is supposed to be advice to TT because he basically appears to have a few issues and one would guess from this song that Rufus worries about him. Very sweet.
