my girlfriend and i, we don't like the same movies
she likes romance and i like kung fu
she likes brad pitt, but i like Schwarzenegger
it's tv and beds in separate rooms
oh yeah i like Schwarzenegger
oh yeah she likes brad pitt

now i'm okay if i gotta watch the notebook
and madison county suits me fine
i sorta stayed awake through jerry maguire
but i'm sorry honey gotta draw the line
oh yeah madison county
oh yeah well, it's got clint eastwood
oh yeah jerry maguire
oh yeah show me the exit

we had to break up because i had to see titanic
a long freakin movie about some people on a boat
the film is actually longer than the sinking of the real one
only one good thing about it:
leonardo dicaprio dies

well, i don't really hate you, leonardo
i never even ever even really saw you on the screen
it's nothing personal, leonardo
but i'm not your demographic
you do best with female teens

i read in the papers how mr. leonardo
tried to sue some band for singing his name
publicity like that, it don't grow on apple trees
so if you're listening leonardo, won't you do me the same
and sue me
sue me leonardo
do me in the worst way
sue me
sue me leonardo
get my name in the papers
i'll be happy to pay

leo, hey buddy, is it okay to call you leo?
leo, won't you call me, won't you drop me a line?
come by my house, it don't matter if i'm busy
if you're bringing litigation, then i'll find you the time
to sue me
sue me leonardo
do me in the worst way
sue me
sue me leonardo
get my name in the papers
i'll be happy to pay

leo
leo, don't you hear me?
leo
don't you hate me?
don't pretend
leo
there's a court upon you, liar
sue me
for all i've got
and i'll be your best friend (i will be your best friend)
i'll be your best friend (i will be your best friend)
i'll be your best friend (i will be your best friend)
i'll be your best friend (i will be your best friend)
i'll be your best friend

The Spy

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
