I know the dream that you're dreaming of.
I know the word that you long to hear.
I know your deepest secret fear.
I'm a spy in the house of love.
I know the dream that you're dreaming of.
I know the word that you long to hear.
I know your deepest secret fear.
I know everything.
Everything you do, everywhere you go, everyone you know.
I'm a spy, in the house of love.
I know the dream that you're dreaming of.
I know the word that you long to hear.
I know your deepest secret fear.
I know your deepest secret fear.
I know your deepest secret fear.
I'm a spy, I can see, what you do, and I know.

Didn't know anything about music? Pretend to be a musician? Alberts179, you are a true idiot. It's amazing that you use the Sullivan performance. That was one of the best live performances of Light My Fire ever!
Morrison had natural talent. You don't have to be "trained" to be a genius. But since you're freaking Mozart, how about giving us a link to YOUR discography of best-selling, musically innovative albums that redefined rock music? Waiting...

Ummm Jim Morrison was one of the most talented people EVER!... Even though he was crazy. I won't argue with that. Read No One Here Gets Out Alive. But in genious you're always bordering on insanity. Oh and by the way Alberts I'm sure Jim knew more on any subject than your ass.
I think this song is about how Jim wouldn't get married to his longtime girlfriend Pam Courson-Morrison.

To me, this is much more about voyeurism and paranoia than something so mundane as checking up on one's girlfriend. It's thematically about the dark aspects of human nature.
One might compare it thematically to The Police's "I'll Be Watching You".
@sawfish666 Made an account just to upvote this comment. You are absolutely spot on. Especially the paranoia part

@sawfish666 Dude, have you read the book?

General mood piece on voyeurism, paranoia, and vulnerability. There is no narrative here, just dumping a very provocative situation into the listener's head..

The repetition of the beginning of most of the lyrics shows a lot of poetic talent, and they manage to emphasize the biggest point of this song "I know your deepest, secret fear"... I do agree with fantome this is about his girlfriend.
As for alberts79, you're a moron, I think you need to listen to some of the live songs and listen to jim screaming. That voice is something that the doors could never do without and it's exactly why the band ended after jim died in france.

or just you are someone who knows nothing pretty much amazes me man...........lol morrison not being talented I mean lyrics are nothing right ok.........

jeez, what ARE you talking about. I love this song.

Can anyone say 1984? a spy in the "house of love" who knows your deepest secret fear. Sounds like 1984 to me.
@modernman73 Me, too.
@modernman73 Me, too.

this song is very seductive. i think the best part is right after the first verse and jim comes back "i'm a spy"

The "dream you're dreaming of" is finding the one who truly loves you. The "deepest secret fear" he talks about is the fear of never being loved by anyone and going through life alone. "the words you long to hear" are I love you. I love this song because it feels as if Jim is exploring your mind like he knows something you don't know or don't want to admit. Genius lyricist.
Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?
