Play It Again, Sam! You Don't Have Any Feathers Lyrics

You lift your skinny fists up in the sky
Packed a change of clothes and left
In the middle of July 2005
But when the glass, it hit the wall
Mother cried and the cops were called
The day you said goodbye

Your father left his work by one or two
To a crying telephone
His wife was on the other side of you
Really did it this time
The boy looks down and begins to cry
The day you said goodbye

And I know you’ve been abandoned
But don’t abandon ship on me
Just know like a winter white snow
You’ve been forgiven, come back to me
I know right now that don’t mean anything

Your skinny legs bounced up into the sky
I tried to tell you to be careful not to jump that high
With your fingers crossed, you fall against the ground
I saw it all, the day you tried to fly

When the red and blue lights made the scene
Your eyes were glazed, and honestly
Can you remember anything?
But when the others ran away
I prayed to God they wouldn’t stay
But sometimes He doesn’t listen

From a father to his daughter
My prodigal child, come back to me
From a sinner to his Maker
Your prodigal son is on his knees

Sweet God, please hold on to me
Sweet God, hold her please, oh please
The day she tries to fly
Hold me, the day I try to fly

um, its "But don’t abandon ship on me" not "But don’t abandon shit on me"

i know they use "shit" in other songs and i dont have any problem with that, but not only does it make more sense, it also sounds more like a "p" than a "t."

Yeah, it's "LORD looks down & begins to cry", not boy.

hmm...just a thought, but does anyone else think that this song could be about the same thing in "I can feel your pain" It seems to have similar lyrics, and they both talk about a girl saying "good bye" I wonder what the story behind this is...

It looks to me like he is talking about his daughter running away. "Packed a change of clothes and left in the middle of July 2005" after her and her mom got into a fight "But when the glass, it hit the wall Mother cried and the cops were called"

And his mom called him at work "Your father left his work by one or two To a crying telephone his wife was on the other side of you Really did it this time"

Then, he begins to incorrporate Luke 15:11-32. "From a father to his daughter My prodigal child, come back to me" This is him being the Father from that story, and he want's his daughter to come back; he's waiting with open arms. "From a sinner to his Maker Your prodigal’s son is on his knees"
This is him crying out to God, and now he's the son, and he is running to God who has his arms open wide.

FlysoloFlysohigh - I definalty think that this song and 'I can feel your pain' are releated. They atleast seem that way. I think this one might be describing what happend to the girl before she died. I have this feeling that it may be about soucide... Just a thought.

I think it's talking about 2 best friends a boy and a girl are best friends and they have to go through a lot and she tries to kill herself to get to a better world. In hopes of making it to Heaven (all the stuff about God and flying high) and when she tried and he saw there wasn't any hope he realized he wouldn't have much longer to go until he "tried to fly" too.

it sounds like it's about suicide. sometimes people do weird things when they're suicidal, you know? like pack bags. they're not thinking literally or straight at all, it's because they're sick/ this song is beautiful and really depressing.

@hanahiscool not really, i think the packing bags part was more about her planning to run away until the cops were called, at which point she decided to kill herself rather than go back.
