Now you know that I heart everything about you
And that's why it's quite hard to get through this alone
You're the only one I can talk to about it
In my darkest night I will be on my own
These walls that we climb are hard to recognize
They fall when I say your name
Here we go
Fast and slow
On the big chair
But we don't know
Where we're going
On the big chair
Don't you know it's hard, quite, in the time of confusion
To tell you that I love you
You see it could have been me instead of you
It could have been me if I wanted to
But it wasn't
So we'll have to face the truth
These walls that we climb are hard to recognize
They fall when I say your name
Here we go
Fast and slow
On the big chair
But we don't know
Where we're going
On the big chair
Time to pull the shutters down
Breakin' clouds don't make a sound?
Here we go
Fast and slow
On the big chair
But we don't know
Where we're going
On the big chair
And that's why it's quite hard to get through this alone
In my darkest night I will be on my own
They fall when I say your name
Fast and slow
On the big chair
Where we're going
On the big chair
To tell you that I love you
It could have been me if I wanted to
But it wasn't
So we'll have to face the truth
They fall when I say your name
Fast and slow
On the big chair
Where we're going
On the big chair
Breakin' clouds don't make a sound?
Fast and slow
On the big chair
Where we're going
On the big chair

I think this song is about two lovers going through couples therapy.
Fran is deeply in love with the person he is singing this song to but apparently things aren't going so well. I get the sense that he was chafed on and they may be separated, hence the "in my darkest night I will be on my own" line.
Here we go Fast and slow On the big chair
But we don't know Where we're going On the big chair
The chorus of the song seems to be referring to the love seat or couch that couples typically sit on when going through couples therapy. He knows that it's going to be an emotional roller coaster and neither of them know if it will help but they're getting ready for the ride.
Don't you know it's hard, quite, in the time of confusion To tell you that I love you
What he's saying here is that it's such an emotional time and there are so many feeling being pulled in different directions that to simply say "I love you" is very hard, especially if he was cheated on.
You see it could have been me instead of you It could have been me if I wanted to But it wasn't So we'll have to face the truth
This is why I believe Fran is singing about being cheated on. He is saying that he had opportunities to cheat if he wanted to, but didn't. He was the one that was cheated on and they have to deal with it now.
I love this song. It has a really cool energy to it, and, as always, Fran's voice is so sweet. I love how the simplest lyrics just sound great, though I haven't a clue what the lyrics mean.
It does balance his nice understated voice wonderfully. i think its about, when you in a situation and you have that person you can tell everything to feeling alone despite this because, maybe they can't or maybe you dont think they can understand what your going through
"time to pull the shutters down Breakin' clouds don't make a sound?"
Your closing up not talking to them but still taking them along for the ride? obviously its an emotional journey, big chair could be the heart of it in that, this situation is taking him along for the ride. only listened once just got album so feel free to comment. am just trying to help Blastings 18
I LOVE THIS SONG TOO!!
I simply believe that this song is the best of the new album. it grows on me too fast.
it's absolutely the best on 'the boy with no name', unfortunately the worst album of travis...
What is he talking about, when he says 'here we go, fast and slow, on the big chair'? I really love this song, especially the part 'It could have been me... but it wasn't, so we'll have to face the truth'.. this is so catchy! I have absolutely no idea what it is about... yeah, it is not only about the person you can tell everything, because i think the person he talks to, is the one he loves, and this isn't always the person you tell everything, or it's almost never the person you tell everything. so i think, it is about the girl he loves, but he thinks she will never love him, and she won't understand why is telling it to her...
however, i have no idea...^^ comment on it!
i actually think that the "big chair" is a huge commitement..fast and slow..like in any relationship: good times, bad times. she's distant, sometimes cold.he gets confused but he's trying to make it work. anyways..that's my opinion.
I agree with brandnewdream about the relationship thing. I think it's about a break up where the guy doesn't want it to be over and isn't sure what the future is going to be like with the girl ("We don't know where we're going", "time of confusion"). He says that it could have been him, but it wasn't; meaning that there were some issues throughout the relationship, but she was worth it to him. Amazing bass throughout the song too. Gives the confused and unsure feeling.
Well I think this song talks about the moment when you discover something bad about a person you love: Now you know that I heart everything about you And u wanna forgive that person, becouse is the one who undestands you, and you gonna help him to continue but you're warning that it will be difficult. I think the walls that we climbed mean the things they have to pass to continue.. and big chair means the ralationship...
Make me think that everybody is setting apart another person and he just want to say: Here am I. "You see it could have been me instead of you"
Great song!! Love Travis
