Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."

This song relates to me sooo much. 3 years ago, a guy made me fall head over heels for him. All my friends said he was a jerk, i didn't believe it. I made it clear how i felt to him, he just ignored the situation. Then, he betrayed me. Then he stopped speaking with me. Then, i begged him and pleaded with him to just talk to me, and he wouldnt. then, he dated one of my best friends for eight months. They just broke up, and he and i got into more fights. But now, he has started talking to me all of a sudden and i just ignore him, im finally over it. He can live with the pain, not me. He was incredibly cold to me in all that time. He was cold to my friend when they went out. I wish he could have been different, but he wasn't. We never even went out, but he hurt me so much.
