Through churning waters and midnight skies
This ship has sailed one too many times
To reach a land of dreams
Where no sole nor soul has set
Where footprints leave no name
Time and time again this attempt has failed
You were my anchor
And I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind

I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind (x2)

Through heartfelt waters and crystal skies
We won't prevail
Time and time again this ship has sailed
And time and time again this attempt has failed
My attempts have failed
You were my anchor (x2)

These eyes, they long for light
So I can see the truth that lies
You always told me this ship would never sail
But I will be washed away

With all my strength, I'll blow this sail
With all my strength, I'll wash away
With all my strength, I'll wash away
Signs, they long for me
So I can see the truth and lies
I will be washed away

This song seems to be about being in a broken relationship and just realizing that there's no future between the two people in the relationship, but at the same time not wanting to let go because: "You were my anchor"

great song and this band continuously amazes me

i agree with mudsown about the relationship part but i think its more that she wants to break it off but hes holding on as long as he can. "You always told me this ship would never sail"

but they would get into fights. "Time and time again this attempt has failed"

but he would hold on. "You were my anchor." "And I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind."

I think "And I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind" show's how he can't let go of this relationship. How he is still connected to the past and what used to be no matter how hard he has tried to let go and forget. I like the last three lines: "With all my strength I'll blow this sail With all my strength I'll wash away I will be washed away" I think it shows the struggle of letting go. This relationship, the bond that keeps them together is metaphorically described as being a "ship". "With all my strength I'll blow this sail" shows the "ship" (relationship) "setting sail" (ending). He is describing how he is trying to forget and move on. "With all my strength I'll wash away".. don't really understand that. I think by "washed away" he means being forgotten to this other person. Any thoughts on what i just said or the song in general, feel free to comment on this. Would appreciate feedback.

    Song Meaning

I took a different meaning. It is about a woman, but I feel like she is holding him down. He wants to be rid of her, but she refuses to let him go.

The sailing metaphor represents a relationship. The goal is to reach the land of dreams, a place he hasn't been yet, where no sole or soul has set. They don't make it, and he says it's because she is anchoring them down, preventing them from getting there.

In the first line, they are up against churning waters and midnight sky, representing tough conditions for them. They keep trying though. When he says 'one too many times this ship has sailed,' he means that they keep starting over and trying again, but time and time again, the attempts fail. The line 'through heartfelt waters and crystal skies, we won't prevail' says that even though they're making a sincere effort (heartfelt), and even though nothing is interfering or trying to mess them up this time (crystal skies, meaning no storms or bad weather), the two of them just can't be together because it doesn't work out. Even in the best conditions they are not right for each other.

He is trying to leave her behind, but she is the anchor that chains him back. She doesn't want him to be happy, because she tells him that the ship will never sail.

He promises that with all his strength, he will try to sail the ship despite the anchor, by blowing into the sails, or by being washed away alone, hoping the sea will carry him.

Sorry kids, this isn't the love song you wanted it to be.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
