I see,
Looking for yourself tonight.
And I know,
Gonna sell your soul under the lights.
And I hear,
The emptiness that echoes in your cries.
Someday,
I'll pray that you finally realize.

Your beautiful,
That's all that I can say.
Unforgettable,
I'm caught in every way.
Don't every let the mirror tell you lies,
Just look at your reflection through my eyes.
Your beautiful.

It seems,
You always keep one foot outside the door.
So sad,
You gotta all but still you long for more.
And you cry,
So desperate for your place among the stars.
But why,
Just searching for what you already are.

Your beautiful,
That's all that I can say.
Unforgettable,
I'm caught in every way.
Don't every let the mirror tell you lies,
Just look at your reflection through my eyes.
Your beautiful.

Feeling your stars are drafted away from me,
Back to the empty place you used to be.
How do I get to you,
To you.......
That's all that I can say.

This is my favorite song on the entire CD! This song is self explanitory. It more than obvious who this song is about.

This is incorrect "Feeling your stars are drafted away from me"

This is correct "Feeling you start to drift away from me"

I love this song and I like the album, but I wish he would stop whinning and grow a pair. There's only so much I can listen too!

Whoa....lol...not so fast. Before you say he's whining and tell him to "grow a pair," you should take into consideration that you don't know all of the facts ALL of the time. I am a friend of Nick's and I can tell you that even though myself and a few other friends of his forget to ask him -- I mean, he's busy and things pile up to talk about....he forgets what he wants to say too all the time. Anyway, as I was saying and interrupting myself (lol), as far as we know, it's not about Jess or anyone else you know. If rumor is fact, then I know the person it is about VERY well but the public would not. It's not a romantic song -- it's a confidence booster to a female friend that kinda talked him through the divorce.....a gift back of sorts. If I get a chance to ask, I won't hold back, but Jess doesn't have a self-esteem prob, nor does anyone else in that circle that I can name. If it's about who I'm referring to, the song takes on a totally different perspective. It can be paraphrased line by line and some things make totally clear sense that may not have before ("selling your soul under the lights," "what you already are," etc...deals with her occupation, personality and everything in a metaphoric sense). So this is actually a case where the truth is "odder than fiction" (lol), but again -- his pals and a few fans believe it is a certain female friend that the majority of the public isn't aware of or even aware that she is a close friend of his. So it's useless to try to guess and it's cruel to assume he's whining. He's not. He's doing something VERY special for someone who cared about him through a bad ordeal. Sorry if it ruins your answer, but "that's all that I can say"....;-). As I said, I could be wrong too of course, so if I get a definitive answer straight from him, I will literally come back here and write it out if it is not private.

And it's seemingly most everyone's fave song on the CD. I love it the best myself!! ;-)

    Love and Peace....

I love this song!!! For some one that had a lot of self esteem problems growing up this song specks to me. And i'm not so crazy fan that is going to say this song is about me (cause i know it's not)

Just saying because of the stuff I've been though I can really relate to this song. In fact I have cried at to it a few times.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
