There might have been things I missed
But don't be unkind
It don't mean I'm blind
Perhaps there's a thing or two

I think of lying in bed
I shouldn't have said
But there it is

You see it's all clear
You were meant to be here
From the beginning

Maybe I might have changed
And not been so cruel
Not been such a fool
Whatever was done is done
I just can't recall
It doesn't matter at all

You see it's all clear
You were meant to be here
From the beginning

My OpinionIMHO the song meaning is much more stark supported by the music itself. This is saying that in his relationship with the other person, he has been habitually foolish and cruel. For some unspoken reason he can't even remember his evil deeds (possibly because he was drunk or drugged and not able to remember), Philosophically, he is nihilistic and says it doesn't matter at all, because love and life themselves don't matter. But worst of all, from the beginnig of time or perhaps creation, their tragic relationship was meant to be.
