you say, "what would i do without you?"
i say, "i don't know."
you say, "if you left, you know i'd be right behind you."
i say, "ditto."

ever since i've known, i wanted to tell you.
i've decided what the next best thing is.
bonnie and clyde, whatever we want.
we'll do everything, everything.

what am i to do? i go on, pretend to be friends just to be close to you.
what do you mean when you say "that way, you get me that way."
you get me that way, too..

spending hours on the telephone like partners in crime, you and i
both know what the other's thinking so we don't have to lie.
both been broken-hearted, both been by each other's side.
i held your head and wiped your tears away as you cried.
and when you say that we should stay this way forever,
and just when i think you finally understand,
you start to talking about how perfect we are together.
i wanna hear you say as "boy" when you say "best friend."

what am i to do? i go on, pretend to be friends just to be close to you.
what did you mean when you said, "that way, you get me that way."
you get me that way, too..

This song describes itself. It's about a guy who likes one of his friends. She says things all the time that he takes as hints, but in the end it's not what he thinks it is. She just thinks of him as a friend, and he has no idea how he is going to handle the situation. He is so confused. It sounds to me that the girl likes him, she just won't admit it.

Maybe it's because one of my friendship's is just like this.

I think that's right on as far as what the song's about. One correction in the lyrics though:

you say, "if you left, you know i'd be right behind you." i said, "get up??"

I think the "get up" is actually "ditto".

No interpretation to share, just that this is my favorite Big Japan song. It's amazing, they are amazing:)

Oh yeah, and The "Get up??" is supposed to be "ditto"

And I submitted corrections to the songs "Complex" and "Practical" cuz they were completely wrong and only half the song was there.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
