to me the song represents a bad trip
Tom Araya doing some vocals. Fuckin' A.
Redrum from the Stephen King novel the Shinning, later turned into a film by Stanely kubrick. Redrum, is backwards for murder of coarse and I am Iron Gland is a parody of the start of Iron Man by Black sabbath, just to state the obvious
DressedtoDepress is right. Although I don't think this should have been on "Nothing Safe" (they left out a lot of good songs, like "Heaven Beside You"), it was an unexpected little interlude to a brilliant album.
I miss Alice a lot. Although I was very much into grunge when they were around, I was a huge Nirvana fan, so I wasn't ready to really appreciate AiC for the unique band that they are/were. RIP Layne.
Jerry always used to play this on guitar during the recording of Dirt. It started to get on everyone's nerves, so they told him if he stopped playing it, they'd put it on the album.
I don't have much knowledge about drug use, period, but maybe he is referring to some kind of effect of or to some kind of gland or another, as the result of drug use. Maybe they are referring to the abnormal usage of the pineal or adrenal glands? I believe meth shuts down your pineal glands, which secretes melatonin, which would allow the user to stay up for days or weeks on end. But I don't know, it's pretty much speculation, since I don't know enough about the use of hard drugs that rock stars typically use.
This song represents a drug user hallucinating, hence the trippy screaming. It's also known in the Alice in Chains fan community as "Dream Sequence".
Absolute worst AIC track, period. But it serves the purpose which Cantrell created it for. XD
Seriously though, it was a waste of space on the Dirt album. A much better song could have gone there, like Lying Season - or really anything else from the Dirt Demos.
