Chimaera Lyrics

You took a time bomb and a case of crackers
And you made a maelstrom of organic debris
Then you took a work bench and a rusty anvil
And you polished them for everyone to see

You have created an unhealthy monster
But you're nowhere but nowhere to be found
So I guess I'll just cope with my provisions
From now until the day they lay me down

You took a baboon and made him perfect
You took a lion and stripped him of his pride
Then you took a million more varieties a scalpel and a sartoryand
And you stitched up a horrible surprise

You have created an unsocial monster
And you're searched for all over the globe
And most believe that things would sure be better
If you'd come down here and tell us what you know

Who is to blame for this?
Someone tell me please
His handiwork is flawed
And it's there for all to see
Mutations, aberrations and blatant anomalies
They multiply and give rise to this... monstrosity

You took the most abundant smallest bits of matter
And you instilled them with affinity
And then you stratified accumulations weeded out bad variations
And blended up your unique recipe

You have created a powerful monster
With direction and purpose all its own
And if you were here would things be any different?
Or are you just a mosaic of thoughts alone?

On the surface the lyrics are a letter to God about the creation of Man and Man as the chimaera. This doesn't require much analysis.

Another interesting interpretation is the opposite. This could be a letter to ancient man regarding the invention of God, with modern religion as the Chimaera. "You took a baboon and you made him perfect, you took a lion and stripped him of his pride" meaning you took the human animal and said he was divinely created with dominion over other forms of life. It doesn't take much to read the rest of the song this way: Modern religion is stitched together from the faiths before it, and over time "bad variations" (splinter faiths, or even codified deviations from current moral standards) are weeded out. No religion that exists today would be adhered to by its founders, so it's not hard to see that the song could be a letter to the men who foisted religion onto the world and about the endless evolution of religion.

I do believe this is another song about God. Mainly from the line "If you'd come down here and tell us what you know." I haven't taken a good, hard look at the lyrics, though. Just a skim and a listen. But in general, I'd say it's about God. Good song.

It's definitely about God. It's also about the destruction brought upon the world by humans, dubbed "monsters." To be more specific, he's asking why God would allow humans to be so destructive. The last line is fantastic, a very clever way of expressing his wonder of whether or not God really exists.

just for some thought, chimaera is the term used for animals who are the offspring of two different species, such as a liger, the offspring of a lion and a tiger, which really do exist. it has also been theorized that a human could produce offspring with a chimpanzee, and some of those "conspiracy-type" people think it happened in a lab in florida and was covered up.

chimaera can also refer to any organism comprised of mixed genetic material, usually unnaturally created in labs. this song does talk a lot about creatures that seem to be created by less than natural means.

Aguaseco's thoughts are an interesting way of looking at it.

The song is directed towards god.

"You took a time bomb" - reference to big bang theory

"nowhere to be found" - god is not around

"just a mosaic of thoughts alone" - god is our creation
