Center of the Sun Lyrics
Young girl in the market
Music to the men
When the men leave
Her eyes are red
When her eyes are closed again she sees the dark market of a violin
And she sings
'They say the most horrible things
But I hear violins, when I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done'
Young boy in the market
Follows all the men
When the men leave
He's out of his head
When his eyes are closed again he sees the dark market of a violin
And he sings
'They break the most beautiful things
But I hear violins, when I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done
I look into your eyes
And I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done'
Center of the sun
Young boy in the market
Sees the girl alone
And asks her
'Have you lost your way home?'
She sings
'You say the most beautiful things, just like my violins'
I look into your eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done
When I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done
'Cause
I hear violins
I hear violins
I hear violins
I hear violins
Center of the sun
I hear ...violins

These lyrics are incorrect. The correct lines are:
When his/her eyes are closed again, He/she sees a dark market of a violin.
That accounts for the two syllables not represented after the incorrect word "above," as well as letting the lines rhyme with the last verse:
'You say the most beautiful things, just like my violins'
Give it another listen =)
Yeah, she pronounces it strange, like vyyyy-oh-lins!

@pervnerve Yah it really bugs me that so many lyric sites have "dark market of above" which makes no sense because "above" doesn't rhyme with "again"! Thanks for pointing that out. Just goes to show that most lyrics sites mindlessly copy the lyrics off other sites.

DarkHelmet correctly points out that she pronounces "violin" strangely. It sounds like "vi..<pause>...o-lin". Almost sounds like "olin" is a separate word.

Being at the center of the sun is being at the center of all being... the god-head. When they close their eyes they are able to transport themselves away from all the wicked things of the material world... hate, hurt, and so on. This song... to me... is about being one with the divine.
I think this song is love story. The girl and the boy both have a certain view on the world and they find each other and they 'hear violins' ;) Seems as though they are both peaceful human beings.
From what I'm seeing it's like, she's a beautiful girl or an attractive girl who doesn't just want to have sex with a guy, she wants to have love and peace with a guy. "They say the most horrible things", is like guys being guys, seeing a good looking girl and saying disgusting things about her. But when she closes her eyes, she hears violins and feels more at peace than any other time.
Then there's the boy and he's not a normal guy who likes to be all 'badass'. But he still does what they do so he can be accepted and once they leave he doesn't know what it was all for that he'd do the things they do. But when he closes his eyes, he hears violins and feels more at peace than any other time.
And then they meet each other, and they hear the violins, and they feel at peace with each other, like they've found the comfort they need, the girl finds the nice peaceful loving guy she needs. And the boy finds the comforting girl who accepts him for him. And they both feel like they are at the center of the sun and they're at peace, and when they're with each other, nothing can hurt them because they have each other.
In my opinion, it's a beautiful love story, and love song.
This song features Poe.
Well this song is most defiantly a love song.
I think it's about a girl who is put down for certain things and then the "men" enjoy trash-talking her for whatever reason. The violins can be her meaning of tranquility and peace; they're something that makes her happy.
When she sings "They say the most horrible things", it means that the men, were saying horrible things to her (obviously) and when she hears violins she feels at peace. When she closes her eyes, she blocks out the world and is in the "center of the sun" so she can't be hurt anymore as long as she believes that.
And the boy hears all the men putting the girl down and follows them. When it says, "He's out of his head", it means that he obviously is angry with the men for putting the girl down.
And then when the boy sees the girl alone and asks her, "Have you lost your way home?", that gives her a feeling that someone actually cares about her so tells him, or sings, "You say the most beautiful things, just like my violins," It can mean he's made her feel happier, just like her violins.
And when it says, "When I look into your eyes, I am at the center of the sun", it means that when they look into each other's eyes, they both feel at peace and then no one can ever hurt them again because they have each other.
Well that's what I think.
I used to actually dislike this song, but now I love it. The music & lyrics are great :)
For me, I got a sense of a much darker song...
I got from the first verses that she was raped by the men in the market... and that the 'I hear violins' is her going into her "happy place" so she isn't hurt more than being raped.
For the boy, I thought he was in the group but not involved in the rape, and that was why he was out of his head.
Then he goes back and helps her.
So, yeah.. much darker interpretation but that's what I got from it.
This was how I saw it as well, but I'm pretty sure the girl is a prostitute, she wasn't just raped randomly.

I think the specifics, like violins and markets, can be disregarded, as they're just tools used to paint a picture. The song to me seems to be about two people who see beauty and joy in the world if they are able to "close their eyes" and ignore the people who see the world as an ugly, dark place. And then these people find each other, and they can share in that beauty together. Definitely a love story (though not necesarily romantic, I can see this being about friendship as well).
At first, you can interpret the girl's "hearing violins" as something negative. While the men of the market are surely "bad", is it any better if the girl retreats from reality (through closing her eyes). In fact, perhaps her distancing from the world is what they insult her for in the first place. The world may be evil, but it does you no good to run away from it and hear violins which aren't there.
Later, when the boy hears violins as well, it proves that the girl isn't crazy. Someone else thinks like her, and whatever the violins represent does exist in the world since he acknowledges it.
But it doesn't end there. When taken alone, their worldviews are incomplete in different ways. For the girl, it's summarized in "they say the most horrible things". While its true that horrible deeds are done, she thinks that all actions are horrible. For the boy, it's summarized in "they break the most beautiful things. The truth here is that there is beauty in the world, but he thinks that it's hopeless since they are always broken.
But they meet, their worldviews complement each other: "you say the most beautiful things". The girl learns that there is good in the world, apart from her. While the song doesn't say what the boy's reaction to this is, I'm sure that he learns that there's sill hope to fix what's broken.
