It's Only a Paper Moon Lyrics

I never feel a thing is real
When I'm away from you
Out of your embrace
The world's a temporary parking place

Mmm, mmm
A bubble for a minute
Mmm, mmm
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it

Say, its only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played on a penny arcade

It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

I think it's just saying that life has no meaning and is pointless and fake without being with the person that truly matters, that being with the person you care about makes everything happier, real and makes life worth living.

This song definetly sounds like it could be in a play. lol

this is in a play, actually, it's the song from a streetcar named desire. it's very symbolic but not a rufus wainwright original, not that it's not very good by him
