Through the Fire and Flames Lyrics
On a cold winter of morning
In the time before the light
In flames of death's eternal reign
We ride towards the fight
When the darkness is falling down
And the times are tough all right
The sound of evil laughter
Falls around the world tonight
Fightin' hard, fightin' on for the steel
Through the wastelands evermore
The scattered souls will feel the hell
Bodies wasted on the shores
On the blackest wings in hell's domain
We watch the lands become
In fire and flame, and once again we know
So now we're flying we're free
We're free before the thunderstorm
On towards the wilderness
Our quest carries on
Far beyond the sun down, far beyond the moonlight
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on
As the red day is dawning
And the lightning cracks the sky
They'll raise their hands
To the heavens above
Who descend unto their lies
Running back through the mid morning light
There's a burning in my heart
We're banished from the time in the foreign land
To a light beyond the stars
In your blackest dreams see to the need, that destiny is tied
And endlessly we're roaming free tonight
And on the wings of a dream so far beyond reality
All alone in desperation, now the time has gone
Lost inside you'll never find, lost within my own mind
Day after day this misery must go on
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on
(Whoa's)
Now here we stand with their blood on our hands
We fought so hard, now can we understand
I'll break the seal of this curse if I possibly can
For freedom of every man
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on
In the time before the light
In flames of death's eternal reign

ok ok ok... on almost every entry i have made. i have noticed people arent just talking about what thie song means. most of them are talking about how awesome the "shit" is. and not talking about the lyrics at all...
anyway. this song means keep pushing on and on. till you get to your destination. no matter how hard it is (through the fire and the flames we carry on!) keep your eye on it. and never give up. now some people just look at the lyrics and "translate" them for word for word. if you do that your rarely gonna find the "real" meaning of the song your looking at. you have to summarize each verse. and then put it all together.
That method has It's merits. But is very peronal and reletivistic. It is theway someone cn find what a song means to them. Explication or line-by-lin analysis is the method I use. See my explication of Operation Ground And Poound, or the on I did o Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne to better understand the term. Explication clarifies any hard to catch single line meanings or obscure allusions that 97% of people will miss while allwing people still to cometo heir own conclusionsaboutthe big pictue.

@bvillans You can do a more objective line-for-line or stanza-for-stanza analysis of a piece, but for me I always just kind of have to read or write down the whole thing and listen to it a bunch of times to really find my own meaning. Because yeah songs generally have a particular universal meaning, but what a piece means to me is generally very personal and arcane. I think it's all subjective.

The Song is about World War II and the Americans vs the japanese- On a cold winter morning In the time before the light In flames of death's eternal reign We ride towards the fight- WWII for the Americans began in the winter and launched dozens of surprise attacks on japan in the following weeks.
When the darkness is falling down And the times are tough or right The sand of evil laughter Falls around the world tonight- World War II included the whole world so evil laughter falls around it. Back then times were not like today's and the darkness is the journey to fight
Fightin' hard, fightin' on for the steel Through the wastelands evermore The scattered souls will feel the hell Bodies wasted on the shores- Finally they made it to the shores and the fighting begins with the singer fighting in this battle and shots are flying all around. It's a wasteland of scattered and dead bodies in the hands of steel (Guns and Cannons and swords were made from iron not steel)
On the blackest wings in hell's terrain We watch the lands become In fire and flame, now once again we know- Americans in the battle thought japan was hell because they kept coming with everything they got including black wings (airplanes) and hell's terrain (japan and surrounding islands)
So now we're flying, we're free We're free before the thunderstorm Hunt towards the wilderness Our quest carries on Far beyond the sun down, far beyond the moonlight Deep inside our hearts and all our souls- On their way to the battle they are free one last time before they must give up their lives for their nation. The thunderstorm (Sound of guns, bombs, etc)is the battle they're heading to. The wilderness are all the mountain ranges and grasslands on the island before japan such as midway. They battle all day and all night with all they got.
So far away we wait for the day For the lives all so wasted and gone We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days Through the fire and the flames we carry on- So far away means on the other side of the world in Japan. The pain of killing and people being slaughtered around you would not experience in a thousand day as you have in one night. And through the fire and the flames they keep fighting.
^^^ I never thought about WWII but it does sound like a good idea when i think about i while listening to the song.

@GermanNSB65 I think it shows life meanings no matter how hard things are or how evil things seems to be if we fight we will win and become victorious in our life's battle with our problems.

@GermanNSB65 I highly doubt a band like this would write a battle song about World War 2 as opposed to a fantasy war. You definitely explained it well though, and that's what I love about music: you can take multiple different stories from it.

So far away (relative to US mainland). Light source = sun. Japan's WW2 flag = rising sun flag.

Probably a reference to US-Japan relations right after Japan's surrender. Since US help rebuild Japan after the war.

Also, that long and intense guitar solo is probably an audio representation of the brutality of the war in the Pacific.

When I first heard this song, the first thing that popped into my mind was "Journey" meets "VanHalen" meets a MASSIVE AMOUNT OF ASS KICKING. I listen to this song every morning to get pumped for work. I bust a nut everytime they play that guitar solo. DAMN theyre good.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE "JOURNEY" MEETS "VANHALEN" MEETS A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF ASS KICKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Like most DragonForce lyrics, these are straightforward, yet with a much deeper meaning. The basic idea is to suggest living on through a great battle. "So far away" is a line that suggests that the battle takes place in a fictional world. The sound of the guitar and very long interlude imply that the fight is long and shows great intensity. "We feel the pain of a lifetime lost" shows they mourn for the fallen soldiers fighting for them.
a friend told me all their songs are supposed to be from a dragon's point of view, kind of ridiculous but it does put a wierd spin on the songs if you listen with that idea in mind.
If you do acctually listen thinking that then you acctually have a real good point

wow it really does work! i think the lyrics are supposed to be like that but also have deeper meanings as well

Sounds like the dragons have returned to our world when we needed them the most...in my opinion, that is.

This song is amazing, all of Dragonforce is insane, especially the guitars no doubt. How many of you have played guitar hero? Wouldnt this be sick on there, hell yeah dude/
@HOBSK8 Boy, do I have some good news for you

Listen to the lyrics. "Through the fire and the flames we carry on,". It most likely means that no matter what happens, never give up.
I think the lyrics are supposed to be from a dragon's point of view on the surface but have deeper meanings as well. I think they are meant to let you interpret it whichever way you want.
This reminds me of something like in WoW, like a band of paladins riding in to the fight together ya know how the paladin chargers glow with holy power and all. thats the way i see it anyways =D
Boo, paladins are so OP bro. (Lol, kidding, haven't been on WoW for a while so I have no clue who is the OP one at the moment.

I believe its about going through the hardships in life when you have to work harder to achieve a bigger goal My example for this "On the wings of a DREAM so Far beyond reality" and "We Fought hard so now we can understand"- You keep working and then you realize that all the work actually worth doing to achieve that goal
