Light In Your Eyes Lyrics
Something is happening
Everything's different but everything is fine yeah
This is the good stuff
Yesterday's only what you leave behind
It's only in your mind
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
No use pretending
You never existed until you saw the light yeah
You're just beginning
You haven't missed it-it's all ahead of you
And you know what to do
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
Here comes the world and she is beautifully mysterious
She's got it all and you say "Give it to me"
Nobody's happy
That's not the world I know inside
Where everybody hides
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
You gotta talk to the One who loves you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
Yeah, thank you, thank you
Yeah, everything great and small
Yeah, thank you, thank you
For the light in your eyes
Yeah, thank you, thank you
Yeah, everything great and small
Yeah, thank you, thank you
For the light in your eyes
For the light in your eyes
Everything's different but everything is fine yeah

what does she mean in the part when she says "Here comes the world and she is beautifully mysterious She's got it all and you say "Give it to me"
Oh, this song is truly beautiful. I smile whenever I hear it!
This one of my favorite Sheryl songs. I've heard from many different sources that this was inspired by the passing of Beatle, George Harrison. From what I heard, his death affected Sheryl greatly and it inspired her to write "Light In Your Eyes".
I am not sure how it connects to Harrison (I don't know much about his solo career or him) but the song seems to be very optimistic which is a great departure from Sheryl's usually dark lyrics.
It sends the message that life is too short to waste so go out and enjoy the good stuff. I also get the feeling that she is speaking to a younger person who has not yet experienced much and she is encouraging her or him to explore and talk the one who gave you the light in your eyes. Great song!!
@Volver88 In this context, it's possible that Sheryl is indirectly referencing Harrison's "The Inner Light," although the lyrics of that song don't seem to connect here.

@Volver88 The guitar solo at 2:07 definitely has a George Harrison sound to it

Ezra 9:8 "But now, for a brief moment, the Lord our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage."
shes looking life from a positive side in this song... talking about going out into the real world 'its all ahead of you', 'its just the beginning', 'here comes the world' and how that experience is 'beautifully mysterious' and she says thankyou. maybe thankyou for being alive after all people who are alive have a 'light in their eyes' metaphorically...apposed to someone who isnt alive
There are references to God in this song, I assume it is a spiritual song that encourages prayer. I can't really read it any other way personally!
There is reference to this well known poem (excerpt):
"All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all." Cecil Frances Alexander
As for the lyrics about the world being seductive - and following that saying that no one is happy - this appears to be a comment on the fact that we are happier being one with God than we are surrounded by the stuff of the world and wanting everything.
In the bible, there are many instructive references to being in the world but not of it, being part of higher ideals.
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."
This is a beautiful song with a powerful message. I am an admitted Jesus freak. I see Gods love in just about everything and this song is obvious to me. When you accept Jesus into your heart you are a new creation. Everything is different. Old things are passed away. You no longer depend on your ego but you talk to the one who made you.The one who gives you the peace that surpasses understanding. This song is suitable for worship as far as I am concerned.
