Last Man Standing Lyrics
I very much took this song to mean that the bands and artists who play live are a dying breed. Jon doesn't want all the rubbish that passes for music these days, and prefers the classic live stuff. Amazing song, even better live.
if you ignore some parts of the lyrics and imagine anothers ...you can easily imagine it´s all about a falling hero trying to do the right thing. ¨You ain't seen nothing like him He´s the last one of the breed You better hold on to your honey Honeys, don't forget to breathe Enter at your own risk, mister It might change the way you think...¨
When I heard that song somedays Vendette comes to my head and some times Joe Hallenbeck.
And anyway... the song´s rhythm sounds very optimistic
The songs is about how there aren't many "real" artists any more. Jon's said that when he wrote the song he was invisioning a carnival where you could go in and see this real artist who would actually play and write a song.
I love this song so much. It was the first song I every heard them play live, and everytime I hear the opening riff I get shivers remembering how amazing they were that night.
I think about all the living legends at the moment who are still going strong: bob dylan, paul mccartney, eric clapton to name a few. It reminds us who are the inspiring artists that we have left in this world. Jon's right that when johnny cash died, who do we have left that will inspire a new generation of musician? Strong message and a fantastic tempo. Pure class!
Well, somehow this song basically reminds me of jon HIMSELF, cos even though he is very much not in the same league as sinatra or bob dylan or whoever, he and the band are pretty close to it. Or will be in another couple of years, and become living legends themselves by the time THEY are sixty or seventy years old.
Anyone who has ever watched MTV in the past 10 years knows exactly what was going through his mind when he wrote this.
the opening lead almost sounds like heavy metal
I love the live acoustic-ish version of this song where he sings "psuedo punk, hip hop, J LO junk"
He may have just taken it out to avoid insulting anybody, but I personally like "J Lo" in there over "pop-rock"...but either works!
Anyway, I love the song. I love that he's not afraid to let people know that the music industry plain pisses him off. So many of us have been thinking it and have wanted to pull our hair out listening to the "Smack that" junk all over mainstream radio, so it's about time someone with some credibility said something about it.
He realizes that it's very unlikely that we'll ever have any "legends" arise again because of the way the industry is running things nowadays.
I'm glad he called hip hop junk too. I don't think all of it's bad, and I think he probably doesn't either, but with all this hip hop that people think is good quality music lately, you just wanna be like "keep your hip hop junk" because it's so horrible and laughable that people actually think it's amazing.
Unique. Stirring. Great song!
"See those real live calloused fingers Wrapped around those guitar strings Kiss the lips where hurt has lingered It breaks the hart to hear him sing" Stirs up thoughts of Johnny Cash for me.
