The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

I know it doesn't actually mean singing a song in the literal sense...but I'm not sure what it represents.
I suspect that this refers to Revelation 5:9 "And they sang a new song saying, Thou art worthy to take the scroll and to open the seals thereof". This would be the answer to "goodbye for now". Meaning (I believe) goodbye for now, on this earth, I am anticipating a time when we will singing a new song together in heaven... Just a thought.
