I think that this song is about both God AND selfdiscovery! Many people have found and devloped their true self because of and through God. Something like that truly makes the real you come alive, and it feels so good that you can't "turn [your] back away."

it is important to never ever! take life for granted. because if u are in the position to die. u feel the things u never felt. to know. to know that u are ganna die, and there is nothing u can do. u see there eyes. u see them in there eyes how terrified they are to die. and they understand theis is real. u only get one life. live it to the fullest. when u are in that position. it is important to have faith in whoever is ur savior. God is mine. because there is nothing like knowing u are going to die.

If you watch the music video it is briefly about a girl and mostly about a near death experience. Sometimes near death experiences can awaken someone much in the way a Christian is re-born and has a new chance at life with Christ. Your life is ultimately changed after being born again and I think that was the message or image the video was trying to portray. Not to mention it is no coincidence that Sonny sings to the sky in effigy. Hes certainly not singing to a deceased girlfriend. :) Knowing this, you can just simply look at the lyrics and easily decipher what this song means.

The most conspicuous lyric which can't be construed as just a general ballad of love or self discovery would have to be: "Tell the world how I feel inside Even though it might cost me everything"

Why would telling the world about a love of a woman cost him everything(not to mention I'm not sure how this would apply to a general self discovery)? This is obviously about a love for Jesus Christ. Hes talking about how he doesn't care if it hurts their record sales for being labeled a "Christian rock band". As for the self discovery aspect, you are actually partially right when you mention this. When Christians are born again, the discover themselves in a whole new light. Hope this may shed some light on the meaning as well.

this song speaks to me about consciousness of faith, or the realization that faith is really all around us. i know most people think of faith as the literal, religious interpretation... but faith tends to branch out from one holy entity to a steadfast belief in the here and now. it may sound preachy but this is the way i view faith, at least, and how it is portrayed in this song. faith gets us through a lot of things (faith in the fact that the hard times will soon be over, faith in someone we love, etc.) and i believe that without any "form" of faith, we wouldn't really be alive. as human beings we need the entertwining of hope and trust in order to live every single day without backing down.

Definitely finding God or finding him again. Being in recovery it definitely has profound meaning to me as step 3, turning my will and my life over to God.

Funny how many years I have listened to it before now and take a totally different and literal meaning to the song.

Do I feel alive? Yeah. Is everything unicorns and rainbows now that I found Him again? No, but it's a lot better than what it was.

A thinly veiled god anthem, nothing more...
