Goodbye For Now

Really? Okay...i think it means something a little different! My take on it was that P.O.D. want to move on from their old stuff. They're saying, hey, whats happening in the world, "strange days" are going on and they're kind of stuck in a rut or something. And then i read it again and thought, maybe it's partly about a girl too. The fact that everythings changing and "there she goes". Maybe thy warned her some things were gonna change and "i'm not the type to say i told you so" and people just need to let go of the past (them as people) and move on. The part about "....sing until there's no song left " is saying they can't stop things, no matter what they do things will change, people move on, we have to say goodbye. I don't know. I'm probably reading it all wacked, but thats what I think.

I make no claims to insights on contemporary music, and I haven't seen their video, but I teach Sunday School, and tomorrow we're going to discuss this song. We're going to look in the Bible at John 3:8 (wind), Isaiah 42:9-10 (new song), Matthew 16:25 (letting go), Matthew 16:1-4 (read the sign), and Psalm 30:5 (joy comes in the morning is the King James translation). Maybe these verses will give help.

believe it or not, the woman singing on the final chorus is no other than. . .-drumroll pls- Katy Perry. I was even flabbergasted when i read this.

There's a lyric that says, 'If joy really comes in the morning time/ Then I'm going to sit back and wait until the next sunrise.' And in our faith, we believe that joy does come in the morning time, so just hold on and hang out and tomorrow is a whole different day."

Wodeva, I'm really sorry about your friend. I can see how the lyrics might convey that idea. I hope you and others can hold on to the line about joy coming in the morning. I know sometimes the night seems awfully long. When I think about giving up I like to listen to Aragorn's speech in LOTR when he says "A day may come when the courage of men fails ... but it is not this day" (You can find it at americanrhetoric.com under The Return of the King).
For romodavid and freejack, thank you, you cheered me right up and made me feel not so old :) In the class my students bring in their favorite CDs, so I hadn't actually heard of POD before, but I liked it a lot, so maybe I'll get one to go with my new Pillar CD. I started investigating because when I listened to my Ted Nugent tape for the first time in 20 years I realized how ungodly his lyrics were. I sure am glad there are some great Christian hard rock musicians around. Grace and peace to you all.

The beautiful thing about music is how the words and music can be molded perfectly to fit our current situation.

For myself, this song is like a tribute to those who, like me, suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder.

The first verse is just like being inside the mind of someone who suffers from this. You feel insane, "stuck in your old ways" even when you know it's wrong. It's as if your mind is truly in a fog, and yet you can always find the "right words to say" when it's all over to convince those you hurt in your blind rage to forgive you.

The chorus deals more with the confusion, and the blame you place on others for your condition. You feel completely lost, and in the end your loved ones can no longer take it.

The second verse relates to other side of BPD, you smile and push all of the feelings you possibly can deep inside. You try to warn people not to get close to you, trying to get them to understand, and when your self fulfilling prophecy comes true, well, "I'm not the type to say I told you so."

The last verse is the sufferer lamenting their loss of life, family, and friends. They resolve to carry their burdens alone, while still blaming them in a way for not being able to save them. "Goodbye for now" is saying that they will stay away until they get better, and they will "wait until the next sunrise." which could just be when the psychosis, and rage subside.

That's just my own interpretation,and it's obviously very different from the others, but I think anyone with a mental illness can relate.

This one isn't as hard as people make it. If you are a fan of P.O.D. you know they are a band of Christians who primarily write songs dealing with faith issues. This song is clearly about the struggles that come with the Christian life but the hope we carry through it all. To say it's about a girl or whatever else is comical. I know the topic of God makes many defensive or uncomfortable but it is what it is..Hear the song for what it is.. I'm not the type to say I told you so :)

i think the first verse is about him questioning his faith "Do i believe what i can't see?" he might be questioning the existance of "god" thats all i got for now, and im so glad that they have a new album coming out, yes!

im sure its about a girl which shows you p.o.d. is trying too hard. They should have released ya mama or teachers as their first single, not this crap. They see slow songs make the radio an release one even if it is not amazingly catchy. I love em but i think there trying too hard
