My Old Friend Lyrics
My old friend, I recall
The times we had hanging on my wall
I wouldn't trade them for gold
Cause they laugh and they cry me
Somehow sanctify me
Their woven in the stories I have told
And tell again
My old friend, I apologize
For the years that have passed
Since the last time you and I
Dusted off those memories
But the running and the races
The people and the places
There's always somewhere else I had to be
Time gets slim, my old friend
Don't know why, don't know why
Don't know why, don't know why
My old friend, this song's for you
Cause a few simple verses
Was the least that I could do
To tell the world that you were here
Cause the love and the laughter
Will live long after
All of the sadness and the tears
We'll meet again, my old friend
Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
My old friend, my old friend
Goodbye, goodbye
The times we had hanging on my wall
I wouldn't trade them for gold
Cause they laugh and they cry me
Somehow sanctify me
Their woven in the stories I have told
And tell again
For the years that have passed
Since the last time you and I
Dusted off those memories
But the running and the races
The people and the places
There's always somewhere else I had to be
Time gets slim, my old friend
Don't know why, don't know why
Cause a few simple verses
Was the least that I could do
To tell the world that you were here
Cause the love and the laughter
Will live long after
All of the sadness and the tears
We'll meet again, my old friend
Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye

sad but beauitiful
i really like this song it reminds me of tom petty. is there a song that this was patterned off of? i remember when it came out it seemed like i had felt this song before
This song came out just one month after I lost my best friend Aaron. I've been devestated ever since, naturally. I work at a movie theatre and I was cleaning one of the auditoriums when this song came on..I'd never heard it before but I loved it right away because it spoke right to me. I love every line because I couldn't have said it better.
Clearly this song is about his Father Tug McGraw who died
Maybe I’m feeling melancholy, or it’s too little sleep, but I keep playing this song over and over and thinking of my Dad. Like I’ve read about Tim and his Father not being especially close, neither were we. I was sure that when he was gone I’d be free of all the heavy trips and disagreements about my decisions – I was wrong. If there’s anything to take from this song, it’s that regret is bitter medicine.
After this song was played on a local radio station last night, the D.J. said the song was about records (as in 45s). Huh??
That DJ is a moron.
This song make me think about my best friend Mike.
See you on the other side brother.
I know that this song is about someone dying, but it reminds me about my old best friend. We were so close, and then we grew apart and hung out less often. Now it's kind of too late for us to be friends again, high school changed everything. It's ironic, because our families are really close, so I see her but I don't really know her and I still miss her. It is kind of like "my old friend" because I was friends with the old her, and the new her is someone I hardly recognize.
Im an 18 year old professional cage fighter. You'd think i'd be all tough and badass and such, but this song makes me cry every single time i hear it. Ive listened to it at will hundreds of times and cannot stop myself from crying everytime. I had two grandparent figures,(not actually related) they pretty much raised me and made me the person I am today. As I grow older, we talk less and less untill this last month. I took this song to heart and go out of my way to see them every week. I dont want to have other places to be, their older and will soon move on to a better place. I dont want to ever regret not sharing out love and memories. I love you Linda and Brian. You'll always be in my heart.
