His eyes are locked on her,
Her eyes are fixed elsewhere,
He's confident, but he's not aware,
She doesn't care.
Their only connection, is the silence that they both grasp,
He's lost control, but she's not aware, of his stare.
Everything seems to intimidate him, with the strobe lights flashing, her body's jolting,
But cracking, as his eyes, spilt in two, if only she knew...
The curtain goes down on him again'
Everything seems to be closing in on her,
It feels just like she is being hunted,
But its all right, it's all good,
She's not aware, of his stare.
We've had this date from the beginning'
The curtain goes down on him again'
Who remains when the curtain falls'
Who remains when the curtain goes down...'

I always thought the lyrics were a bit more sinster than that. more like he is watching this girl and almost stalker her but she doesn't realise until maybe it's too late? You know the whole "it feels just like she is being hunted" and "Who remains when the curtain falls?" the final showdown. What happens when they meet.

You retard. It's about just two randoms in a club. The guy likes a girl but the girl has no interest in him. They have both taken ecstasy or some disco drug. he's lost control, but she’s not aware, of his stare. Everything seems to intimidate him, with the strobe lights flashing, her body's jolting, But cracking, as his eyes, spilt in two, if only she knew... It says it quite clearly there. Good song :D xxxx

I agree with the whole club/two people/drugs thing ''He’s confident, but he's not aware, She doesn't care.'' When your 'under the influence' you're more confident to people you like and you don't notice they arn't interested. ''Everything seems to intimidate him, with the strobe lights flashing, her body's jolting'' the confusion when you're drunk or whatever with all the chaos in a nightclub. ''The curtain goes down on him again…'' Im guessing this is like the closing of the whole chaotic 'show' that has been him making a fool out of himself? and he's failed once again to get the girl. Amazing song, amazing band. See them live they're just incredible!

i love this song. its so well put together, it sounds so sad. but i always thought it was about a guy seeing a girl on the dance floor, and just watching her, stalking her. 'It feels just like she is being hunted,' 'We’ve had this date from the beginning…' sounds like he's going to rape her or something. really well put together, sounds asif he's the victim, when in the words, she is.

Maybe a "Streetcar Named Desire" reference? talking about curtains falling, and basically quoting Stanley on the "We've had this date from the beginning", before he rapes Blanche.

by Enter Joe on 01-28-2007 @ 09:50:12 PM It's about rape (Y) LOL @ that. Not that rape is funny, just the context of him saying it. I agree that this song is about two randoms being on some disco rave drug, "He’s confident, but he's not aware, She doesn't care." That line is a classic. Love Enter Shikari, they're awesome.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Zombie
Cranberries, The
"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.

The Last Dance
Within Temptation
@[Kahiara:35260] Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(ceremony) ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.
