I think the song is more talking about an actual Mexican boy named Jesus and how he has the humility and kindness Jesus had. I don't think it has anything to do with Christianity.

garnetscar - I think there are a couple significant things... 1, I think memk is right... despite the obvious references to Jesus Christ, I think that Sam Beam is trying to separate this view of Jesus from mainstream, bubblegum Christianity. They would never approve of cards with naked ladies on the back, but I think Sam Beam wants us to rise above all of those silly rules and checklists and focus on the LOVE which is the point of this song. Jesus shows above all unending, unconditional LOVE. 2, It's totally something a couple of young boys who are best friends would do... give each other porno cards, lol. 3, it leads into, "I never knew I was given the best one of the deck," which I think is meant to show how even in the smallest little things that we might only barely remember, Jesus is giving us his best, his utmost, all his love.

Also... I think the significance of Jesus being a Mexican Boy might have to do with him being an outsider, an alien, someone not quite belonging among us and yet belonging among us all the same... if that makes sense?

i think it's pretty obvious that he doesn't mean wholly jesus christ, but a literal mexican boy named jesus (a common hispanic name pronounced hey-zeus)...or do you think that he ran away to vegas with jesus christ's sister?

the broken bottles represent the way he goes through life thinking of himself first, and others second. he would only be willing to give if he first had enough for himself. i think this song can either be interpretted either as actually talking about his relationship with jesus and christianity or just his life in general. either way its a beautiful song.

I think that the most beautiful thing about this piece of heaven is the way the lyrical story and the cantabile music style flow together. I feel the lyrics telling a story to be honest and do for others, but dont be miserable your self just to please other people. He went behind Jesus's back and married his sister, so he had to to be happy himself.

"Naked the Judas in me/Fell by the tracks but he lifted me high/Kissing my head like a brother and never asking why." He compares himself to Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus. Judas was also a villain. However, Jesus still picks him up and kisses him like a brother.

i have no idea what this song means but that doesnt change the fact the i love it
