I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images and when we kiss
They're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate
That God himself did make us
Into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay
And true it may seem like a stretch
But it's thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

I've tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon listening
And that frankly will not fly
You'll hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now" they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now" but we'll stay

actually, the original song credit goes to the postal service. the iron & wine version is a cover. i think the lyrics in the i&w version pack quite a punch since they are delivered more slowly and thus have more time to sink in whereas the postal service song may be hard to understand the first time around. both versions are excellent, however.

I honestly prefer this to the original. I find it to be much more suited to the lyircs when it's so slow.

this song is so beautiful. it's one of the most romantic things i've heard in a long time. i think it's a guy deep in love talking about his girl. They look like they have the perfect relationship (They will see us waving from such great heights) and people want to know how they are so perfect("Come down now," they'll say), but there might be some problems but it's ok because they can work them out ( But everything looks perfect from far away"Come down now," but we'll stay ). maybe the problems are like she's gone all the time and he can't see her very much, but he still wants her all the time (But it's thoughts like this That catch my troubled head When you're away, when I am missing you to death). and he just can't tell her how much she means to him while she's gone, and he wants to show her but he has to setter for second-best things (I've tried my best to leave This all on your machine) ~just a thought, or two

I like how candycanechild88 put it. It's such a romantic but honest song. This couple seems so happy and perfect together to everyone, but they have problems just like anyone else. It's about working past the problems and just being in love and happy together despite everyone and everything else. Also, this is my favorite cover of a song ever. The Postal Service original doesn't even compare.

why does it seem like all of the postal service's lyrics are so amazingly true and beautiful? the words communicate a real feeling about life and love that few other artists manage to do. i love them, but i am torn between iron & wine's cover and the original... they are both fantastic.

I think this song is about 2 people that just want to be together and they know that they are perfect for eachother but maybe there are other people who try to bring them down... so the song is about separating themselves from those who try to break them... you know when you get caught up in relationships and you feel like your in the clouds, and other people - maybe parents (haha) tell you youve got your head in the clouds or you should be focusing on other things, but when your with the person you forget about all that "They will see us waving from such great heights" is the other people who see what they have and are maybe jealous "Come down now" is them trying to break them "But everything looks perfect from far away" is the couple ignoring those people who are trying to bring them down and remembering that what they have is perfect when they can separate themselves from the negative, and how they get through it together

Haha, I wonder if it hurts to see your song covered and done a million times better. :P Poor Postal Service. Don't get me wrong, I love the Postal Service, but really... Sam Beam just steals this one.

This song is simply amazing.. It says everything you ever wished you could say to someone who means everything to you. At the same time it makes me almost afraid of the power the lyrics have. This song is perfection.
