Burn This City Lyrics
Stay up all night and sleep all day,
we were smart kids with too much to say
and we were so, so sure
that they were missing out
(yeah they're the ones that are missing out)
we were elemental,
thought down to bare essentials,
who knew we'd get so far?
'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we burn so bright
we burn this city and go
play it again
(????)
oh, there's no such thing
(no, there's never too much)
and we were so, so sure
oh, we never had a doubt
and now we're counting days to getting out
we were elemental,
thought down to bare essentials,
who knew we'd get so far?
'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
oh, at least we know that if we die
we lived with passion,
they said we burn so bright we burn this city and go
pack our bags and let's get away
they're catching on to us (4x)
'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
oh, at least we know that if we die
we lived with passion,
they said we're both so bright we burn this city and go
'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
(and oh, we burned this city and go)
oh, at least we know that if we die
we lived with passion,
they said we're both so bright...
oh, our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops,
they said we're wasting our lives
(well, we're not wasting our lives!)
we were smart kids with too much to say
and we were so, so sure
that they were missing out
(yeah they're the ones that are missing out)
thought down to bare essentials,
who knew we'd get so far?
by nights on too many rooftops

I used to be very heavy into drugs, and this song is what my life used to be.....so many nights on so many rooftops (and in the woods, pools, back yards etc) living it up. Just going totally nuts, blowing lines like a rockstar...I realized I numbered my days...But at least, as they say, I lived with passion. And that, friends, is what this song means to me.
This song is really easy to interpret first off, one must take into consideration that Cartel is a Christian based band. the first verse alone gives witness to this song being about spreading the word of God;
"Smart kids with too much to say"
"And we were so, so sure that they were missing out, They're the ones who were missing out"
"we were elemental, soaked down to bare essentials"
"Who knew we'd get so far?"
The Chorus is my favorite part and is the easiest to interpret!!
"Our days are numbered by nights on too many rooftops"
And burning Bright simply means being a chrsitian; in a crowd of people, it sheould be incredibly evident of the ones who are christian based on the things they say and do... kind of like a light shineing in a dark room. Christians are supposed to be bright lights in a dark world so much so that they make impacts on their communities, or in metaphorical terms, "burn this city".
Another reason to mark your calenders for September 20th when the new CD comes out. Watch out for these guys! If you don't have the Ransom EP then go get it. These guys deserve all the support they get!
we were elemental, soaked down to bare essentials
lyrics need a lot of correction
This song reminds me of the summer and senior year of high school. This band is awesome, why dont more people know about them?!
"This song reminds me of the summer and senior year of high school." Right on, colin... and that's a good question.
"cause our days were numbered by nights on too many rooftops..."
Every Friday night,3 of my best friends and I sit on my roof. It makes me think of that.
