Imperfection she's been told
The positives are undersold
A gain of envy, a loss of health
Preparing to consume herself

She does not see the pulsing veins
She does not feel her own restraints
Before her eyes the beauty is wasting away
Reflections placed, she's dressed in decay

You see the struggle flood the skin
From promises to paper-thin
She turns a blind eye, will of stone
From stunning smile, to flesh and bone

She does not see the pulsing veins
She does not feel her own restraints
Before her eyes the beauty is wasting away
Reflections placed, she's dressed in decay

She does not see the pulsing veins
She does not feel her own restraints
Before her eyes the beauty is wasting away
Reflections placed, she's dressed in decay

its not about drugs, obviously its about an eating disorder... "Preparing to consume herself" is a hint and... "From stunning smile to flesh and bone" obviously means she used to be beautiful but now shes 2 skinny. "She does not feel her own restraint" means that she cant tell that her body is dying. maybe its about a model who let her expectations get the best of her

I think HCCougars is right about this song. At first I thaught it was just about a girl who is really depressed but now its easy to see that its about an eating disorder.

"Imperfections shes been told, the posotives are undersold" - Someone has told her there is something wrong with her body, like she needs to lose weight. "A gain of envy, loss of health" - She wants to be skinnier, like someone else so, she develops an eating disorder.

its either about drugs like yous said or it could also be about how shes fake and how shes fake its just so moronic how she is fake and how she is slowly decaying from being a fake, but drugs seem verry possible.

HCCougars is prolly right...All the signs lead to an eating disorder. A song I will have to play for my friend who is anorexic. Plus a song all ballerinas can relate to.

On Deron Millers website this what he put for song meaning based loosely on Karen Carpenter of "The Carpenters" and everyone else that starves themselves to achieve that one shallow goal visual perfection.

This song is about a girl who has been put down and hurt her whole life so thats all she believes about herself and in reality she is more than all that. She doesn't see the good in herself or the beauty she possess but because of everything she is just killing herself in a way.

this has to be one of the best cky songs ever if you ask me.

I agree with the eating dissorder theory because I know a lot of people who have them and it is like they cant see how they are fading away. It's scary what fashion can do to people.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
