"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Lost myself in an endless goodnight
Kept the time by the patterns of the streetlight
Couldn't get it right
I could never get it right
Sadly, this is a wasted conversation
Lost on you, lost on you
This is a test of my patience
Your blue eyes are so cruel
I can't escape all the things we said
I'm taking years off my life with the weight of regret
Now there's nothing left
There's nothing left to lose
[Chorus:]
Shouldn't I feel all right?
I swear that I tried
To be alright
To sleep at night
The night fades with a breath of sunshine
I'll do my best to adjust to the morning light
I can't keep my place
Feels like I've been awake for days
Sadly, you turn away and now I'm faced
With the harsh truth, the harsh truth
My cold heart is a place where true love cannot bloom
[Chorus:]
There's static on the airwaves
I'll try to find the light through all this haze
I can't find the words that I'm trying to say
So try to forget me as I walk away
[Chorus:]
Kept the time by the patterns of the streetlight
Couldn't get it right
I could never get it right
Sadly, this is a wasted conversation
Lost on you, lost on you
This is a test of my patience
Your blue eyes are so cruel
I can't escape all the things we said
I'm taking years off my life with the weight of regret
Now there's nothing left
There's nothing left to lose
[Chorus:]
Shouldn't I feel all right?
I swear that I tried
To be alright
To sleep at night
The night fades with a breath of sunshine
I'll do my best to adjust to the morning light
I can't keep my place
Feels like I've been awake for days
Sadly, you turn away and now I'm faced
With the harsh truth, the harsh truth
My cold heart is a place where true love cannot bloom
[Chorus:]
There's static on the airwaves
I'll try to find the light through all this haze
I can't find the words that I'm trying to say
So try to forget me as I walk away
[Chorus:]

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
American Town

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
After going through your xanga and seeing some of the bands you listen to, its pretty safe to say you've got a shitty taste in music so do everyone a favor and shut the fuck up, k?
"kinda liked it" it shows..
The song speaks for itself, it's really relatable which is the best part of it.
Well, from prior knowledge of the songs before this:
If you haven't known, The City Sleeps in Flames starts in tribute to 9-11.
All the songs afterward follow as a storyline to the tradgedy.
This song is when the incident is over, to prove: "I'll try to find the light through all this haze"
So this is the point where everything is over with, relationships, the incident, trials and hardships.
He begins anew by walking away.
I think this is about an old relationship with a girl. I feel like it's about a relationship that's gone sour.. He loved her so much and now he's filled with regret.
I feel like the girl walked away and didn't want anything to do with him anymore and now he's trying to pick up the pieces of a life and love he once had and moved on.
I sure know what that feels like.
This means a lot to me. lol I'm in LOVE, with this boy, and it's like he's trying to see how far I'll go for him! D: "This is a test on my patience, your blue eyes are so cruel." he has blue eyes. the rest of the song works with my situation too. :[
Every time i listen to this song i cry, it has such personal meaning to me.
nice....
great song... anyway i think the lyrics are wrong:
My cold heart is a place Where true love cannot bloom ---not lose
bomb band-- i love the synths
NIKKIE, Don't tell me what to do. He used "angsty" words to, so don't single me out. And you're right, I should have been more respectful, but I don't show respect to people who don't show respect at all.
At least I gave my take on the meaning instead of just insulting a band and completely labeling by the one song I heard.
And I agree with your take on the meaning.
I hear bloom.
My cold heart is a place Where true love cannot lose[BLOOM] Cos I really don't see 'lose' making sense to the song. It's obviously about a break up that he's trying to get through, but he can't let go. Mab ethe whole thing was ruined because of his attitude, or just having a 'cold heart' that wouldn't let him love her. Those 2 lines sum it up for me, out of that whole song.
I totally back up autumns_gone on that. That kid did say some stuff that maybe some of us would take offensively.
But anyway, this is supposed to be about the songs meaning, my bad.
I like it, I can relate. I think it's about looking back on a relationship and feeling the regret of ever being in it. It hurts like hell and you know you should let go and so should they. It's better for both.
