i think it's about breaking up, and them both being upset.

they are growing apart, they lost another person in their life, hence adding another little hole to their hearts.

i don't get that^. I guess, their love spell is broken, their love tore them apart. I dont know.

Realization that everything ends.

i agree with fanducky, this song does seem to be about coming to the realization that everything ends. A beautiful song, but one of the most depressing i've ever heard. Even if a couple never split up or end their relationship, one will end up dying in the other's arms eventually. The line, "This life can only, leave us lonely" sums it up.

im experiencing this. she knows things are falling apart and he can see that she knows. he doesnt exactly know what to say or do. their love is dying but they still love eachother. her heart is breaking: she is breaking. he sees her upset and tears follow. i hope noone ever experiences this although love often leads to this :(

I can understand why you might interperet this song that way, but I personally think it is about two people who are making love, but must part. I think that the "day breaking" is metaphoric for the end of thier union. He knows that this will leave him with "another little hole in my heart". Just my opinion.

Wow...this song is SooOoo depressing. But I really love it. "this life can only leave us lonely." I think that this song is basically about a love that once was strong, perhaps, but is dying for some reason...or at least for one person who is part of it. It's like they're experiencing the motions, but they don't truly feel it for each other anymore. Sad.

I feel it has something to do with the girl feeling like she's been used by guys, and the lyrics "each day, each dollar," kind of highlight that, making a refererence to how prostitues (who make money off of sex) are used. Not saying the girl of the song is one, i tihnk he's lyrically trying to convey the way the girls been treated (like a prostitue being used) by men.
