Scents & Subtle Sounds Lyrics
If you would stop and notice that we number every day
But allow the many moments left uncounted slip away
You don't have to count them, just enjoy them one by one
Then things would take a different hue and sparkle in the sun
The winds would lift you up into the sky
The winds would lift you up into the sky above
Where you would see a trail of treasured memories you love
A rainbow record of the thoughts and moments you've enjoyed
Arcs behind the earth as spectral colours in the void
In the void
Scents and subtle sounds
Scents and subtle sounds
Scents and subtle sounds
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds...
But allow the many moments left uncounted slip away
Then things would take a different hue and sparkle in the sun
The winds would lift you up into the sky
Where you would see a trail of treasured memories you love
A rainbow record of the thoughts and moments you've enjoyed
Arcs behind the earth as spectral colours in the void
Scents and subtle sounds
Scents and subtle sounds
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds
(Scents and subtle sounds)
Scents and subtle sounds...

I believe that this song is about the modern society's attempt to quantify life. Before the Modern Era, time was not measured as strictly as it is now. Tom Marshall seems to be advising the listener to adopt a zen-like attitude (as he often does) towards living.
I see this song as almost fantasy, this is one of those songs I would have loved to see live. There's so much left to be interpreted. This, and Access Me (sigh)
I think this song is about living in the moment and the advantages of not losing yourself in thought which is time.
