This song is about missing somebody. There are things that happen to you during your day that make you think of that person who's not with you; and by thinking about them you're "mailing the thought to their address". As time goes on, you think about those people who are gone less and less and the things that would've reminded you of them before don't anymore. All these thoughts and memories you used to have with them are left in a "bin". When they say "someone else will set your clocks" it means that everybody's day are numbered, and one day you'll be the person that others are mailing their thoughts to. Live your life to the fullest on earth and try to impact people positively.

(I don't remember where I heard this.) Trey and a friend stole a human heart from the lab in college and mailed it to another guy as a joke. Velvet Sea is about that.

regardless of its subject, this is a beautiful song. simplistic, but beautiful nonetheless. i love phish... so very varied :-D

well subskin i know you heard that somewhere. but if you have listened to the song. you can not say thats the meaning. its way to beautiful for that. and i agree with stardroplet, this song is very moving. and regardless of the meaning. just listen and enjoy. relax and let phish put you in that place that only they have the key to.

this is such a great song with such good lyrics to me it says that you should tell someone you love or like before it's to late before they leave, "You won't find moments in a box someone else won't fix your clock" you can't go back and change thingsor fix the past

ok... i think this was probably the first phish song i ever heard... regardless... i don't know much about it but i think i know what this line means... "You won't find moments in a box And someone else will set your clocks"... to me this clearly means that you can't get fake expierences (drugs), you have to get out and live your life cause (as in physically out there, nature, family and friends)... the box to me is something technological as in a computer or T.V. the experiences there aren't "real"... as for someone setting your clocks, i believe this to has a meaning that if you let others dictate your life to you, your not living it... bleh

its a beautiful diddy for sure! if something is beautiful, why tear it apart? would you tear apart a rose? can't we just appreciate the art for its beauty in and of itself, and hold back our desire to poke and prod?

Look at the website title.. Song meanings... its the meaning you take from a song. Some people get emotions and feelings from a song.. and they can put them into words, some people prefer reflecting back within themselves to the true beauty, and not sharing their thoughts.. either way it's your own choice. If you don't want people poking and prodding a song.. then go to a website where you can't place feedback into what it means... It's just a lovely thing to be able to discuss this here.

i think that it means that someone's taking someone else's advice. "took a moment from my day and wrapped it up in things you say." but the advice might not be too good. "the packaging begins to break." but thats just a rough gestimate on the meaning.
