Back When Lyrics
The fizz in a pepper
Peanuts in a bottle
At ten, two and four
A fried bologna sandwich
With mayo and tomato
Sittin' round the table
Don't happen much anymore
It's all way over-rated
I like the old and out-dated
Way of life
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
Black, shiny vinyl
Clicks and pops
And white noise
Man they sounded fine
I had my favorite stations
The ones that played them all
Country, soul and rock-and-roll
What happened to those times?
Cause they put pop in my country
I want more for my money
The way it was back then
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
I want the whole world to be humming
Just keep it coming
The way it was back then
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when
this song is so cute!
I miss back when- why do words have so many different meanings now- you could be saying something completely innocent and it seems like someone can always turn it around and backfire it on you- like you said somethin' bad
haha, this song makes me laugh :D ya ppl with sick minds
This Song means exactly what it sounds like. A long time ago (50s-60s I think) life was so much simpler. Coke was Cocacola. Hoes were garden tools to till up the land. But now, Coke is a drug that you shoot up, and hoes are, well, if you live in today's world you should know what a hoe is. I just have one question. Why put in disgusting things like eating fried bologna sandwiches with mayo and tomatoes? Ewww...
lol i'd never read/listened to the lyrics that closely and all i heard was him talking about hoes... i was like "hookas? that doesnt sound like tim mcgraw, i better go on sonmeanings and see what im missing".... i GET it now!
I really connect with mcgraw tunes. I totally agree with what he is singing. One way i look at this song is sorta being like a kid again, all innocent and stuff. I miss being a kid, right?
"at ten, two and four" ???? never understood that one.
"at ten, two, and four" is a reference to an old Dr. Pepper ad campaign. Common wisdom was that the average person experienced fatigue and felt run down at 10:30am, 2:30pm, and 4:30pm so the ad told you to combat that fatigue by getting a jolt of energy by drinking Dr. Pepper at 10, 2, and 4.

Hoe is short for whore, which are synonyms for prostitute.
